ANYBODY LIKE THE KEL TEC PF9

I have 2 Kel-Tec P11s. I consider them a "business" gun and they will only used for business. I don't expect them to be a good target or range gun nor do I use them that way. Kinda like I would not expect a dump truck to handle and ride as well as a good automobile.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

my son has a kel Tec 380 and it is an excelent pocket carry gun. it has never jammed so far and he has shot it at least 500 times pocket lint and all. it does have a strong trigger pull though.

    ABOUT THE SAME HERE

it would not be a shoot a lot range gun but i need to blast some rounds to get the feel, sorta thought it would be great for summer carry, small and light, it does have a lot of bang for the buck, no gun battle gun but it will get someone off you[:)]

Actually it could easily be a good "gun battle gun." Reason being is that to begin with, it shoots a reasonable round. 9MM with Federal Hydra-shoks are supposed to be excellent man stoppers. My P11 holds 10 rounds of those babies. (I always load a mag l round short for reasons I will give if interested).

Unlike most other pocket carry semi-autos, my P11 has a last round slide lockback. Meaning it will tell me when it gets hungry and it will also have the slide locked back and ready for a full mag replacement. In my observations, few pocket semi-autos have this particular feature. This means that you can do rapid reloads. The P11 mags are very small for 10 rounders, so if you carry a couple of extras on you, you can pump out 30 or so rounds in a very, very short time.

Even better if you continue to carry the P11 with the P11 mag, but carry a few extra 15 round S&W mags (they fit and function as well as the Meg-Gar mags). With only 2 extra 15 round S&W mags plus the 10 round KEL-TEC mag, that gives you 40 rounds in a very small package.

As far as that goes, in KS there is no restriction from carrying two handguns. As small as my P11's are, if needed I will carry them both. Depends on what part of the KC metro I am going to, what time of day/night and how dark it is.

I will ask, why 1 light?

Your correct on light I do like that and also slim line. I also have 3 extra mags but the PF9 is stuck with 7 round mags. my main carry is still my XD45 , or the PT145. so far all 3 have been great. I think the PF9 will be good for summer were. shorts no belt.

Thank you for asking. I have come to believe that most firearm designers attempt to create their firearm to be able to hold the very, very maximum number of rounds that they can stuff into the factory mag. This makes the gun look better when writing advertisments for it and may encourage more people to want it. But because of this desire by the manufacturer to stuff as many rounds into the mag as possible, I bellieve they sometimes are not able to offer quite enough room for that last round to go into the mag.

So, if the last round in such a sitution is actually "stuffed" in the mag, I fear that the pressure will do one (or more) of a few things. #1. Pressure will distort or damage mag. Especially the feed lips. #2. Distort the top round thereby possibly causing a feeding problem or even, in a worst case, a chambering problem. #3 The excess pressure placed on the top round, because of being "stuffed" into the mag, will put excess pressure on the bottom of the slide (the part that rides over, and actually has constant contact with, the top round thereby possible causing the slide to cause a misfeed.

I first started noticing/thinking about this back when ex-pres Clinton's so-called assault weapons ban was in effect. All firearm and magazine manufacturers had to make civilian mags that would only hold 10 rounds becasue the was the law. Now the law actually would allow 10 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber for a total in the gun of 11 rounds. And that is how (I think) many gun manufacturers make their guns. They made them to hold 10 in the mag and one in the chamber for a total of 11 rounds.

But Smith & Wesson made their mags to hold only 10 rounds, but the last round stuck up so far that it would not go into the S&W 5900 series models except when the slide was locked back at which time you could insert the 10 round mag, release the slide lock and now have 9 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber for a grand total in the gun of only 10 rounds.

If you removed the mag on that gun described above and topped the now 9 round mag with one more round, (for a now total of 10 rounds once again) you could not insert that mag into the mag well unless the slide was once again locked back.. The sleazy reason S&W did this trick on gun owners was because they apparently took the law farther than they should have and made it so that you could not load a 5900 series 9MM S&W semi-auto with more than 10 rounds.

Because of the above I now feel better about the whole situation if I make sure there is no excess pressure in the situation by loading every mag one round short.

    ill buy some of that[^]

My norm is one lite in the mag. And I change up the mag ever so often. give it a break so to speak.
My thinking was the spring compressed for alone time may weaken it.

I have also seen write ups some years back that say this wont happen do to how the springs are tempered.

all in all it is man made and some things have not always lasted the way they were supposed to [:(]

i.e.: changed out a set of frt coil springs in an old CHEVELLE that had been setting for some years dead, when I got the springs out both were bent from setting in one position for so many years.

    thanks for your info fox

I looked at a PF9 at a gunshop on Sat. I prefer the P-11. I like a true double action as I feel safer carrying it with a round in the chamber. I like the 10 round capacity and the wider grip is more comfortable to shoot.

I also carry the P11 on a daily basis. I bought LEO mags (available to everyone) from Kel Tec. They hold 12 rounds and one in the chamber.

Were else could you carry one extra mag and have 25 rounds in such a small package.

I have a PF9 heading my way as we speak. I'm looking forward to taking it to the range for a try-out. I have a EAA Witness .45 Full frame as primary, bought a S&W M&P 9C for 2nd, and believe the PF9 will make a great ankle/hot weather carry. The 7 round mag does give me pause, but if there is some shiite happening that can't be finished by 14 rounds of JHP (main load, plus 1 extra-mag), then I need to practice a LOT more. I'll post my range results if anyone is interested.

As far as loading 1-lite, I gree with the "spring Fatigue" theory. When I was carrying my Baretta M9 in Afghanistan, I carried 8 mags, all 1-lite. The full load mag springs weren't strong enough to fully load the lat one or two rounds. Too much fatigue from being fully compressed for so long. Even with 1-lite loading, we had to 'exercise' the mag springs every few days.

...Kel Tec is a neat little gun...I'm kicking around getting the .380 or 9mm...have been for a year, but there so dang tiny.

...A SPRING will NOT weaken ever, from being/staying compressed. Weakening can and will only occur with compression & decompression, as that, is what it is made to do. There is no "wear" when a spring is left compressed, myth.

I "might" buy off on some of fox's idea about the "full capacity theory" for a mag on some cheap POS gun, but not on a quality gun. Hell, if you have good mags you can change the base plate and the spring (spring poundage) for whatever round works best with the way you have your gun set up.

...Me thinks your trying think WAY too much and to out think some fine gun designers and engineers...and I would probably take offense if you actually thought you knew more than J.M. Browning.

...What about some of the modern makers of some very high quality mags?...nothing to do with the frame they fit, just mags that OUT PERFORM a LOT of factory mags...[;)]

..A LOT of POS Factory mags out there...that come OEM with very high quality guns, including Colt mags...and I consider Colt a quality gun, but their mags are NOT as good as they could be...leave them in the safe and buy some quality mags, and don't short yourself on the number of rounds your mags hold...[;)]

One of my duties was to interface/advise the National Police and Army. We went into places that weren't exactly given a 5-star rating by the AAA. Never-the-less, 8 mags was the most I could carry effectively along with the 5 mags of M-16 ammo....
