Works in progress. Top picture: LH Lancaster flint (42" .50 caliber Green Mountain barrel), c. 1830-1840 trade rifle (33" .58 caliber barrel, unknown make), another Lancaster flint (44" .45 caliber swamped Getz), all curly maple stocks. Bottom: kid's rifle (26" .45 caliber CVA barrel), walnut stock. I'll be fixing up my new home and then moving, this month, so not much is going to get done on these for several weeks at least.

Those are going to be Real Nice when completed.
I really like the look of full length curly maple on Muzzle Loaders.
The only time I involved myself in a muzzle loader build was a kit from when T/C was selling them about 20 years ago.
Fairly easy kit but the barrel had to be draw filed, sanded and browned which took the most time.0 -

You talk as though, compared to building modern guns, these are hard! I have several Mauser projects going (no pics and my $35.00 W-M camera has earned itself target status on the next halfway warm day I have free for blowing things up) and, though the fitting of parts is much the same basic processes -- there's something nerve-wracking about them that I don't get with the frontloaders. Maybe just a matter of what I'm used to.
Forgive my ignorance -- I will call what you built a Colt, for the purpose of saying you did a great job. Very businesslike. If I were into semi-autos (I just "modernized" from a cap-and-ball Colt repro to a Smith Model 10) that would be just about what I'd want. I realize it probably isn't actually a Colt, but you get what I mean.0 -

One Mauser up from a stripped receiver into a 22/250, several HK91 clones; including welding up the receiver, trunnion and cocking tube and converted the trigger pack to semi-auto. I've also built and rebuilt several 1911's and a few AK's from the ground up ... everything from bending a flat into a receiver, welding in the rails to transform into a completed firearm.
I've been "building" AR's for close to 20 years ... not just snapping the 2 halves together but everything from installing the front sight/gas tube/barrel ... Someday soon, I've got a couple Suomi 9mm drum mags I'm going to something with ... at one time I was going to convert them to work in a HK 9mm but then I bought a Beta ... just gotta figure out what!0 -

I have been building ARs since I made friends with the armorer for the Seattle SWAT in 89. Still my favorite firearm.
I have some piston gas tubes coming right now that replace the gas tube and vent the gases about 2 inches back from the gas block and push the bolt carrier with a piston rod.
They have been tested on full auto so they should be nice and work well on semi auto AR15s.0 -

I've heard of a kit for around $400, but I'm not that free with my cash when the current system works just fine for my needs ...0 -
