    Congress is the most powerful BRANCH of the govt. but it's power is divided between 2 parties and 435 Congressmen, each representing a single district, and 100 Senators. Therefore it's collective power is diffuse and not concentrated, just the way the founders intended. They write and pass all the laws and, most significantly, control the purse strings. Not a penny can be spent without them first authorizing it. Just the way the founders intended.

    The president is the most powerful INDIVIDUAL in the federal system and exercises supreme executive and law-enforcement authority as well as being Commander in Chief of the military. He, as a person, is far more powerful than any single member of congress, but his power in terms of federal law making and especially budgetary matters, pales in comparison to Congress's.

    Congress. I am far more concerned about who is in Congress than who is president. There are many congressmen in office today that have far more power than any president could ever hope for. The presidents power allows him to temporarily deal with an immediate crisis where congress power is enacted slower but has long term effect. This is one of the reasons I support term limits. We have people with TOO MUCH power in congress. I could live with limiting CONSECUTIVE terms. This would help to give less popular but no the less good candidates opportunity to prove themselves and/or new ideas and still allow exceptional congressmen to return and serve the people without gaining excessive power. Voter sometimes get stuck in a rut and won't give a promising person an opportunity if the person in office is doing even an OK job. I think it would give congress more diversity and still allow for a level of experience.

    Supreme court.

    Congress makes a law.
    President can veto, or override congress.
    Congress can override president's veto with enough support.
    President can convince his party not to override veto.


    Supreme court can declare a law passed by both the congress and president unconstitutional, and there's not a thing they can do about it.
