9MM short?

What is a 9MM short? My wife was in a jury this week on a case involving a "9MM short" handgun. She said it was also refered to as a .380 . Is 9mm short and .380 the same thing? I thought 9MM short was the 9x18 MM which is different from the .380.

    9x18 is a slightly more powerful round, also called the 9mm Makarov, and used in Makarov and similar Commie-Bloc pistols.

    You didn't ask but .380 (which is what I always call this thing to avoid confusion) is a pretty marginal round, slightly less powerful than a standard .38 special.

    It is marginal, but my .380 Kurz are solid, reliable, and back-pocketable carry pieces.

    Interesting. The case was about a felon on parole in possesion of a handgun. In this case a loaded Hungarian FEG.
    The gun was found in a drawer in his home, next to his wallet.
    The guys wife claimed it was her gun and refered to it as a .380.
    The prosecution contended that it it was a "9MM Short". And that it couldn't be hers because she was wrong on the caliber.
    I always thought that the .380 was also called a 9MM short. But I believe the FEG is also chambered in 9x18. So I wonder if the prosecution was wong, or was calling the 9x18 a 9mm short.
    BTW: There was another interesting aspect. According to the wife, the guy was also charged w/some kind of interstate commerce violation because the both the gun and ammo were MFG outside of Okla.
    Anyone ever hear of this?

    Sounds like the prosecution was trying to pull a fast one on the jury to get a conviction. Playing up on semantics to confuse and hoping that no one on the jury had any knowledge about guns.

    The Walther PPK/S is one of the best known handguns chambered in that round. I just ogled one at my local shop today. One side of the magazine says 9mm kurtz, the other says .380 ACP.

    kurtz is the German word for short.
