What can you tell me about them? Good or bad??

I always thought of them as middle of the road.... not the best... and far from junk. Great gun for plinking and having fun... .probably not the nest bet for match grade shooting. 0 -
If I could not get a Bushmaster DPMS would be my second choice. 0 -
I have one and it has been great. I have not had one weapon related malfunction with it in three years. As you can see, I have upgraded it a bit though. Bushmaster chrome lined barrel, chrome bolt/carrier, etc.

Didn't DPMS undergo MILSPEC testing by the US Army several years ago? Unless I'm way off base, I think they are..both in dimension and metallurgy. At least, for the basic M16 platform. Best, Joe 0 -
DPMS is an excellent arms maker. I have known Randy Luth, the DPMS president for several years. I saw him at the SHOT show in Vegas last week. They were just bought by a large conglomerate but continue to supply high quality guns. 0 -
I really like the trigger on my DPMS. But i dont have a DPMS upper, ive got a Colt upper. 0 -

But for how long.... those conglomerates have a way of cutting costs... cheapening the product... and increasing the price... best to buy now!0 -
I've got 2 ... but the .223 hasn't gotten much trigger time and the 308 hasn't gotten any yet.
The quality of the 223 is why I went ahead and got the 3080 -

After much research and firing the DPMS, Rock River and Bushmaster, I went with the DPMS for a patrol rifle while on duty based on price, warranty and feedback from other LEO who carry the DPMS. Close to 500 rounds through it and NO problems, very accurate considering it's a short barrel M4. I think you would be happy with it. There's probably better out there,(Colt,H&K) but way more expensive. 0 -

That is based on experience, not just my opinion I have shot one of each the only difference between DPMS,RRA,AL is the DPMS was a little finiky and the others where not.
I have never shot a Bushie that functioned well. unless it was a bushie lower and some other upper.
Star is a better gun for the money over the bushie anyway0 -

It sounds like all of the problems are with the upper? What about getting a stripped lower and building it with non dpms parts and then a better quality upper of your choosing?
Here are some of the problems with the DPMS.
1. out of spec chamber (yes, it may be marked 5.56, but it's not)
2. 4140 non chrome lined barrel
3. No HP/MPI testing on the barrel or bolt (not a big deal to some, others prefer the additional piece of mind)
4. fire control parts look like they are built from scrap hood ornaments
5. commercial receiver extension (poor thread engagement)
6. The FSB not the proper height (A2 instead of F marked)
7. Gas key improperly staked
8. castle nut not staked
IMO if they are cutting corners on the things that are visually verifiable easily, what other corners are they cutting that you can see.

How old is this article? I know of a few State Patrol agencies who use the DPMS, and a few of my Army buddies told me that some of the units in Iraq were using DPMS. According to one Army armorer, DPMS used to make guns from other suppliers components, but started making their own, building thier guns almost from scratch. While I am no expert, and I don't claim to know ALL there is to know about the guns, I just don't see the military using a gun with the above listed problems.0 -

I was told that all DPMS, Bushmaster, Colt, RRA, and Stag arms lower receivers were made by the same company, Lewis machine and tool.??????????????? 0
