On this MLK holiday (that in no way should be a holiday IMHO) I have been seeing the term African American all freekin day long!
I am sorry people but you are either a freekin American or your not!
Ther is no ________ American in my book and anybody who feels that it is nessisary to put such a phrase infront of American (whether it is African, Mexican, or any thing else) is not an American and they need to get the HELL out of my country![}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)]

Absolutely agreed. (rant starts here) What in Gods great name do YOU (individuals of a darker pigment skin) desire to be referred to this week. I thought you all wanted "equality"...now you want "priority". I'd say "the dream" has more than been achieved and the only people "digging up bones" is your very own. Your "day" only manifests hate in the current culture. People now days recall nothing about slavery so what gives? Here's an idea...maybe you should march to ban the news/media as this is the reason why so many feel the way they do today (white, black, green, yellow, purple...or what ever color you are). I don't care what color you are, if your out and about this day and age and some "gansta" type with their pants hanging' off their azz walks up, your going to lock the doors or hold that purse you have tighter.
My suggestion to you is to get over it, get a job, be responsible, and be a productive citizen and contribute to a system/government that is much better than any other in the world. Stop being a drain on the system and rise up. Have some self respect for you and "your people". Now back to your regularly scheduled "hate whitey day". Sorry, I am Polish American and proud. While I firstmost consider myself an American, I will not denounce my heritage. Poles and Americans have a long history of fighting for the love of country, independence, for themselves and others, and have done so together. Read your history. Poles are likely the most "American-like" people in Europe, as far as patiotism and idealism. And Churchhill a Roosevelt turned their backs on them..... 0 -

I agree with GRD. Why do they have have to put their own nationality before the word AMERICAN. Why not just call yourself an american if indeed they are one. It's the same concept as flying their own country flag above our american flag while living in the U.S. 0 -

to rcxsoldlady, my question to you is have you ever written polish American on a application for anything I'm english,checkloslavakian, american.(or some such nonsense) I filled out probably about 100 or more applications never have I ever seen any hyphinated-American except a minority. my whole life including grade school when asked I have always listed myself as American. I have been chastised by many "knowledgeable people" take umbridge at the fact that I list myself as American and I refuse to hyphynate

I went to an elementary school where I was taught by Polish -American nuns, from a very Polish-American church. They still did the Mass in Polish until about ten years ago, at least one Mass a day. I grew up in an Italian-American neighborhood (and all that that entails). While I would never 'put myself down' on an appication of any sorts as anything than American, I think I am cheating my mother, my father, and my grandparents, who came across the Atlantic in a bucket to give me this life by not acknowleging them and their sacrifice, and all the family I will never know, because their history has been obliterateded by communism and numerous despots, if I do not acknowlege my background. 0 -

I agree with GRD as well. My family originated in Ireland, but when they came to America they became American, and I was born American, so I am what I am, and damn proud of it.
