    Nice looking house! We looked at two that were very similar to that one when we were house hunting two years ago. In one the high entry area was open and it was a single story house; in the second one the high area was actually a second floor.

    We liked the stone and brick construction, so when we finally bought a house it was a custom home with stone and brick construction!

    I assume you are actually looking around for ideas as to what you want to build. Good luck and have fun looking!

    Old-colt you are right we are just looking to get an ideal of what we may want to build we did call and talk to the builder and was pleased with what he had to say but I have to wait another 8 months before we do anything (getting all debts paid off) and should look at a few hundred more by then [xx(]

    i think the view would be great on our 9 acThat's nice and yes, the view would be nice looking out across a pasture, field, or woods!

    Lots of decisions to make when you are building your own home; we were lucky enough to find one that was exactly like we wanted our final home to be and didn't have to go through the agony of building it! It was less than a year old and it was designed by the owner's son who is an architect in Dallas. Give very careful consideration to fireplace location and flooring, master bedroom located on opposite side of the house from the other bedrooms; and single or multi story (I would only have a single story); consider a walk-in shower in the master bathroom, and 3 foot interior doors; among a bazillion other things.

    A couple more things before I forget them; if you build a house you have the golden opportunity to design a "Man Cave" just the way you want it with a built in area for a gun safe, etc. (more than just a mudroom or reloading area), so take advantage of it. Also, if you really like music, but you don't plan to build a separate home theater, make sure you design the den, great room, or living room to accommodate the components and speakers for maximum fidelity as well as through the wall wiring because it does matter.
