GLOCK CREW: Butt plug or no butt plug?

My G34 has a butt plug.. its one of the ones that flush with the bottom of the grip. I've seen some that stick out, like they would be good for assisting reloads.

I think my butt plug looks pretty good though.


Thoughts?

    I thought all Glock owners preferred Butt Plugs?

    plug it, if you get into competition or even have to ever do a quick reload you can find yourself hitting that open hole with the tip of a magazine, i've seen it done



    they are illegal for some competitions but you can get them weighted to help reduce recoil

    That open cavity on the GLOCK is there for a reason. Should any debris get into the weapon and make its way throught the fire group it can fall free of the weapon. The plug keeps it in there. When your weapon is dirty, clean it. I've carried a GLOCK since they were allowed in SC and never installed a cavity plug.

    Pistols are carried holstered 99.99% of the time, meaning this wide mouthed cavity stays angled upwards and acting as a chute that would funnel junk down in toward the internals.

    When the G17 first hit the US market I remember this design feature being questioned and Glock's official explanation.

    Their original magazines weren't designed to drop free in order to prevent loss of the mag and ammo if the release were accidentally hit. When you pressed the release the mags were designed to only come out a fraction of an inch on their own, even when fully loaded and the pistol held upright. You were supposed to pull it the rest of the way out and this cavity was there to allow you to insert a thumb to obtain a grip on the mag body.

    Keep in mind that Glock originally designed this as a military pistol, not a police gun. The large military contracts never materialized but it quickly took off in the world's police market. The demand for a quicker reloading design, primarily from the US LE market, soon brought about the drop-free magazine redesign.

    For a couple of reasons Glock retained this cavity design even after changing their magazine design. They'd already sold tons of the older type mags and it's also seen as an aid in removing a magazine if it fails to drop free for any reason-such as a double-feed jam.

    i just popped mine off for the first time since i installed it 28,000+ rounds ago, with having shot it in sand mud, rain and snow, the cavity is clean as a whistle, i don't think debris could possible make it in there through any part of the gun


    just wait till your doing a blind reload, or one in a awkward position, and in a hurry, you'll wish you had it plugged

    That's what we were told in Smyrna at GLOCK Armorers school.
