BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) - Tom Cruise is the first on the list to get Ducati's newest motorcycle - a $72,500 superbike bristling with titanium, magnesium and carbon fiber technology that can scoot up to 200 mph.
Cruise is scheduled to take delivery of the Desmosedici RR at Beverly Hills Ducati this week. Only 1,500 of the red-and-white Moto GP racing replica motorcycles will be made and Cruise gets the first.
Michael Lock, chief of Cupertino-based Ducati North America, said the Desmosedici RR "is the impossible dream - made possible."
"We are delighted to be able to deliver the world's first production unit here in the USA to Tom Cruise, who is a well-known Ducati enthusiast," Lock said in a statement.

My guess is he will never push the bike anywhere close to it's limits. A few short cruises (no pun intended) and then into the garage with all the other toys.
Then a few years from now it will hit Barrett-Jackson.

I have been up to 135 on a motorcycle, goes without saying I was a very young man, 19 years old.
It was my brother's Kawasaki Mach 3 500, a 3 cylinder two stroke. It had a separate oil tank and injected oil into the cylinders, did not use oil mixed gas. In the early seventies it was the fastest production vehicle in the world.
I got that baby up to 135 on the Atlanta Perimeter highway, it is weird to pass a car going 60 and it literally seems to be standing still since you are doing 75 mph faster.
I held it for about 4 minutes and backed it on down, I had had enough.0 -
Tom Cruise is a major egotist and I think that the world would be a better place without him, but his capabilities with machinery have really supriesed me. I thought he was going to kill himself when he bought a P-51, it didn't happen and he is actually a pretty good pilot. He has also never wrecked any of his other bikes, you can't say that about George Cloonie (SP) or Or the Kid that played Ob-won. I doubt he'll ride it more than once or twice and it'll never go past the speed limit. 0 -

That ain't no "Superbike". It's a stock motorcycle with a bunch of flashy accessories on it. "A fool and his money shall soon part". Buy the base model and keep the extra $$$ where it belongs. Bottom line...the new stock 1098 is an amazing machine and has more then enough giddy up for street riding.[^]

My old Katana and me saw 150 once. Several times 120. Ran 60 miles at 120 once. Really weird on that one I was in a Pack of Cars and we were getting Passed.
The 150MPH was because some idiot in a Pickup truck was trying to play tag with my rear tire. So I left him Sitting.0 -

Gee, it wouldn't be safe for Tommy Boy to ride much more than 154 mph. I hope he never gets it up to 200. That could be awful! 
The Honda rider was traveling at such a 'very high speed', his reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h (155 mph) before the bike hit the slow moving car side-on at an intersection. At that speed, they predicted that the rider's reaction time (once the vehicle came into view) wasn't sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place.
All three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Stockholm Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish Police and Road Safety Department. The sign above the display also noted that the rider had only recently obtained his license.
At 250 KM (155 mph) the operator is traveling at 227 feet per second. With normal reaction time to SEE-DECIDE-REACT of 1.6 seconds the above operator would have traveled over 363 feet while making a decision on what actions to take. In this incident the Swedish police indicate that no actions were taken.
In other words, they didn't even have time to say, 'Oh, $#!+!'0 -

I know what you mean by fast. My dad had a Buick Gran Sport, with a 355 in it. He told me a story one time, about him doing 135, he said the air was catching up under it and felt like it was lifting the car off the ground in the front.0
