OK, my turn.

I read dano and zipperzap's stories about intervening and I have a story about me getting involved from about 20 years ago.

I was sitting in my car at the big shopping mall one night a few days before Christmas. GF (that's how long ago it was) was in shopping while I waited in the car.

I happened to see a woman get into her car and back out of the parking space... right into the rear quarter of another car. The driver got out and examined the damage (some fender denting) and then she nervously looked around as if checking if anyone saw the accident. She took a pen from her purse and quickly scribbled a note and left it under the windshield wiper on the damaged car before driving off.

I was curious, so I walked over and read the note.

"Sorry about your car" was all it said. No name or phone number. I guess she figured if anyone was watching they'd assume she was leaving her contact info to make good on the damages. She never counted on some nosy guy checking up on her.

So I added her license plate number, explaining what I saw and my own name and phone number to the note and put it back.

The next day the car owner called to thank me. He said that when the cops called the hit and run driver she immediately fessed up and offered to pay for the damage.

I love being heroic...

    My turn also
    Me and room mate, when going to school for diesel mechanics. had a drug dealer move into our apt building....had alot of highschool kids all of a sudden start showing up .....our apt manager an ex cop, was scared to turn him....he asked us if we would, said hell yea and called the cops they was there with in minutes and busted him....me and my room mate was warned when he got out bail. but nothing ever happened. was both armed pretty well anyways as we both hunted.

    Cowards seldom come after anyone they think might have a chance of putting them down for the count. That's the cowardly way. They might run their mouths a little, but they will even stop short on that if they think they are getting close to the limit of what you will take. It's the cowardly way.

    Jacob, it's a joke.

    Of course I didn't do anything heroic. That's why it's funny when I describe it that way.

    As for wanting neighbors calling the police because they see me in my own home with a gun... no, I wouldn't like it because unlike hit and run (which may be a felony depending on damage amount) I am not breaking any laws, hurting anyone else or doing anything wrong by being in my own home with a gun.

    I did something similar 10-12 years ago. Sitting in the parking lot
    at the grocery store waiting for the wife to come back out.
    A car swinging into a parking spots rubbed a pretty good crease in
    another car. She looked at the damage, and proceded into the store.

    I was still there when the gal came out to get into the car that had
    been hit, and asked her if anyone paged her in the store. They hadn't
    so i told her what happened. Within minutes they had a cop there, and
    there was no denying it, and the other cars bumper still had the
    paint on it, and height of bumper and damage all measured up.

    They had all this confirmed before the offending party came back out.[:D][8D]
