Flawed "Science"

Ok i am sure this has been covered before but i have to rant . . .

just watched the Mythbusters show on gun myths, it was some of the most flawed science i have ever seen.

they did the bullet impacts in water and the carols Hathcock through scope kill shot an i think that they left out Key Variables in their testing methods

1) in the bullets penetrating water at Omaha beach they neglect the f act that German machine guns were often loaded with Steel
Core Armour Piercing Ammo; wouldn't this make the bullets perform better/different after hitting the water?

2) when they perform the test on the Gunny Hathcock shot did they use a Soviet scope ( they mention that they do not have the
actual scope that he shot through, but you can not tell me that they can not find out that info and obtain a similar scope? Did
they use the same Caliber for the shot as Hathcock? Did they use Military Grade Ammo out of an original M70 Winchester?

and these a re just some of the variables that they messed up


i don't know why but this annoys me

    I think what they did proved the points they were trying to make.

    I think you may be nitpicking.

    I agree with their conclusions.

    Almost all of the Mythbuster's "scientific" methodology is flawed...

    As an engineer, I am always disappointed with their methodology. Its not very scientific as they don't issolate the variable that they are actually trying to test. All in all, its an entertaining show but their conclusions aren't always very accurate, but the experiments are interesting to watch. And the explosions are second to none.

    i know mythbusters revisited the hathcock story because people complained. in the second test they used what they say was an original scope that the VC soldier would have been using. i dont know the rest of the details.

    on the water test i dont recall them saying they were testing german soldiers scenario but just bullets being fired into water. i found that test to be interesting.

    but yes, i think some of their scientific methods are a little flawed

    And when they were testing the 5 second rule, they never took culture samples from the food BEFORE they contaminated it.

    i love watching myth busters...but i havnt seen the show you are talking about, but i assume its about wether a bullet can kill under water...one variable that never seems to get tested is if the water is agaitated..lots of air bubbles like from someone swimming etc. makes a lot of difference.ive shot tiger snakes that were swimming under water...i got someone else to throw a big rock in and then shot strait after while the water was very agitated...it worked for me...the snakes were killed out right...i also saw an idiot once who put a 12g barrel about 6 inches under water and he pulled the trigger...he only did it once!! [:D][:o)][:o)][:o)]

    Sgt. Hathcock didn't use military grade ammo. Do your research you will find he used match grade ammo!
