Tinley Park Il 5 Women murdered

I'm within 10 miles of the incident so can pass on local details of the geography of which I'll pass on a particular interesting item below the news article.

Law enforcement officials started their manhunt for what apparently is a lone gunman. He had fled the area by the time officials arrived. A store-by-store search confirmed that theory and relieved shoppers in the neighborhood.
Grady said officers responded to a 911 call of a shooting at the Brookside Marketplace at about 10:45 a.m. found the victims inside the Lane Bryant store. No motive, other than an apparent robbery gone awry, has been floated.
The store is not known to have held a substantial amount of cash on hand, however.
``Every store was immediately canvassed and a search by air has given us every indication that the offender has left the scene,'' Grady said. Cook County law officials offered the use of a helicopter and canine units in the search,
Shoppers were let back into parts of the strip mall Saturday afternoon. The crime scene remains cordoned off.
Shopper Tracy Caccavella was at the nearby Pet Smart store late Saturday morning across the parking lot from the Lane Bryant when she police came into the pet supply store.
``Six police entered the store with their hands on their gun holsters,'' Caccavella said.
Police conducted a thorough search and left, she said.
Lane Bryant Brand headquarters have not commented.
This is a nice quiet suburban community, not a high crime area. Also regardless of what you may hear or read it was NOT a mall. The area was a shopping center.

5 innocent women dead, less than 4 minutes away from the police, no suspects in custody 11 hours later.
No ccw available to the victims (at least they would have had some chance).
When seconds count and the police are minutes away.......
I'm not inferring the local police there are at fault, the Department has a good and professional reputation. But you can't always carry a cop.
It's a shame.

Even if the police station is next door, if you are not armed, and confronted by an armed attacker...... Well, you probably won't have been dead more than a few minutes before the LEOs get there. They simply CANNOT be everywhere at once. We have fire stations, fire engines, and firefighters where I live. I also have a fire extinguisher or 3 around- because they are not HERE. Same reason I have a weapon on my belt when I leave the base camp. 0 -

Do you live there? Tinley Park is quite a nice area. My parents live there and crime is very minimal. Now if you want to talk about neighborhoods that are not that good in that area- go to Robbins, Harvey, Lansing, Calumet City, Dolton, Riverdale, Ford Heights, Pheonix and South Holland. That's <15 miles from me. My wife worked out of a warehouse on the same (191st) street. The bounderies between towns have blurred, so that it's now solid city from Frankfort on north. As these once separate communities assimilate with Chicago, so come all the evils of Daley's empire.
jhimco mentioned South Holland and Dolton. My wife grew up in those two towns, when they were mostly white, blue collar neighborhoods. The influx of people moving there from the city and bringing their problems with them, drove most homeowners out....to the south. It's like a "walking barrage". If you survive the barrage, the invasion is right behind it. Upscale or not, Tinley Park and Frankfort are on the front lines of the invasion coming out of Chicago. This tragedy is just one sign of it. Almost time to get outta Dodge.
