A passenger in a taxi leaned over to ask the driver a question and tapped him on the shoulder. The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb, and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window.
For a few moments everything was silent in the cab, and then the still
shaking driver said, "I'm sorry but you scared the daylights out of me."
The frightened passenger, apologized to the driver, and said he didn't
realize a mere tap on the shoulder could frighten him so much.
The driver replied, "No, no, I'm sorry, it's entirely my fault. Today is my first day driving a cab . I've been driving a hearse for the last 23 years. [:o)]

I posted to rovrman's post about a new job.
We lost our Operations Manager back in Jan (promoted). Since then I had picked up the slack on alot of day to day stuff. A search since then turned up no worthwhile candidates. Last Wed, the General Manager said I should give it some serious consideration. On Fri, he made an offer that was very difficult to refuse. Having little interest in the job and having turned down other offers at other plants for a similar positions, I accepted. Out of the Control room and into management I go.
As a side note, a long time friend (13 years) also got a promotion to management. We will be sharing an office. He is from Boston, I am from the Bronx. Needless to say this makes for some interesting banter. We will be sharing an office, currently getting painted. We joked about how we would get some paint and that I would have to stare at the Green Monster and that he would have to stare at the right field fence at Y.S. (where the hall of famers reside) I came to work for night shift and the GM (Yankee Fan) had the walls opposite out desks painted in the appropriate green and blue. A painter has been commissioned to decorate them approriately.0 -
I got a job! It's only for one day, but what the heck? I will be an election clerk tomorrow, November 4, at the Sand Hills Country Club polling place, between Commerce and Campbell. Be sure to bring your picture ID! 0 -
Well, since we were successful in destroying those bad chemicals stored here and wrapped up all the paperwork, I once again worked my way out of a job.
RIF (Reduction in Force) notice was to be effective 1 December 2012 which would have resulted in me being unemployed. PPP (Priority Placement Program) stepped in and I now have a new position. I will be working in Industrial Hygiene as a "Program Assistant".
Thank the Lord. I was beginning to get a little worried. I would have been eligible for early retirement at a reduced rate and with kids still in school that was just not going to be enough.
New boss will have to wait until after deer season for me to start. [8D]0 -

Just got hired by Boral Bricks, anyone here work or has worked for them? They are putting a brand new, "state of the art" brick plant, hasn't even opened yet. Feel really fortunate to be getting in on the ground floor, considering the job market here locally---about 1000 people from several companys are now out of work (my self included) because of closings in this area. Just wondering about Boral. 0 -
Finally, after months of searching, applying, interviewing and waiting; I got a new job back in my field.
I will be an ems dispatcher, most likely nights and weekends. Unfortunately, my physical limitations have likely end my career in the field, but I think I can be happy on the desk. I may not be able to go out and play any more, but I can still tell others where the party is.
Couldn't have come at a better time. I was in a neck and neck race between bankruptcy and being committed for depression. The liquor store was just enough money to get through the day to day, but the big picture stuff(car insurance etc) was falling apart.
So anyway, back in the saddle starting Thursday. Pretty psyched.0 -
After being laid off from five different jobs in six months, Joe was hired by a warehouse.
One day he lost control of a forklift and drove it off the loading dock.
Surveying the damage, the owner shook his head and said he'd have to withhold 10 percent
of Joe's wages to pay for the repairs.
"How much will it cost?" asked Joe.
"About $4,500," said the owner.
"What a relief!" exclaimed Joe. "I've finally got job security!"0 -
I left the ethanol company in Ohio last Friday and moved to Iowa to work for a huge company here. So far Iowa is.... nice. I'm sadened greatly that I can't walk into a gun shop here to look at guns because I need a stupid state license to purchase handguns. [:(!]
So far so good, the biggest problem I've run into is that I really want to sexually harass the HR lady... what do you do in that situation? [}:)][xx(][V]0 -
Started a new job today as a CODE Enforcement Officer. Now all I have to do is figure out what I am suppose to be doing![:)] 0 -

I was sitting at a long stop light yesterday, minding my own business and patiently waiting for it to turn green, even though there was no on-coming traffic.
A carload of bearded, young, loud Muslims, shouting Anti-American slogans, with a half-burned American Flag duct-taped on the trunk of their car, and a "Remember 9-11" slogan spray painted on the side, was stopped next to me.
Suddenly they yelled, "Allah Akbar! Praise Allah! "Death to America" and took off before the light changed.
Out of nowhere an 18-wheeler came speeding through the intersection and ran directly over their car, crushing it completely and CREAMING everyone in it.
For several minutes I sat in my car thinking to myself, "Man....that could have been me!"
So today, bright and early, I went out and got a job as a truck driver0 -
My only brick joke:
A "not so bright" young man decided that he wanted to build his own house. His only problem was that he was a bit short on money so he decided to design it himself, get ONLY those materials necessary, and then do the building, all himself.
He did the designing and got it approved - then he sat down and figured out just exactly what he would need. After a lot of figuing and counting he had his final numbers, right down to the number of nails needed to do this project. He called his local builder's supply house and eventually everything arrived on-site and he was ready to go. First thing, though, was to count the materials and make sure he had exactly enough to do the job. He counted lumber; 2x4's - right, 2x6's - right, 2x8's - right, 2x12's - right. He counted pipe - right. He counted wire - right. He counted switches - right. He counted nails, - right. He counted cinder blocks - right. He counted bricks - right. He counted flowers for the flower garden - right. He even counted grass seed - right. Each of these things were compared to the plans that he had drawn and everything came out exactly.
After many months of working day and night, the day finally came when he could call it all finished. The whole house was done and furnished. Electricity and water were on, cable TV was up and running, even the phone was set up just like he wanted. The yard was landscaped, seeded and growing, the flower beds were all in place and blooming. Even the swimming pool was filled and ready to go.
He went out in the front yard on that first morning, just to look at and admire his creation. It really was a beautiful house. Among some of its' more notable features were the 6 large bedrooms, the double front doors with glass side-panels and a large glass crown over the whole thing, the kitchen that a French chef would kill for, 4 full baths and 2 half-baths. For a single guy, this was a house one could be rather comfortable in.
Anyway, as he was admiring this thing, he was roaming around the yard, taking it in from all angles. As he rounded a flower bed he suddenly tripped and fell right on his nose. As he got up he looked around and, would you believe it? He found a brick laying in the middle of the yard - not a part of anything, just a brick.
Now, he had been pretty careful all along. He immediately figured that there had to be a mistake somewhere along the line. After all, he had designed this house, he had counted the materials needed and counted what he got when it was all delivered. Everything was right. But in his hand was a brick, a brick that shouldn't have been there.
So, he went back to the beginning - right back to the plans. He poured over the plans for 2 days and came to the same conclusion - his original numbers had been right. The he checked his original order - again, perfect. He checked the invoice - perfect still. He even checked his count when everything had originally arrived - perfect in every respect. BUT, he had a brick in his hands. Finally, he figured that SOMEWHERE there had to be a brick missing on his house. He walked around the house with his plans in-hand, counting the bricks, row by row. He counted the front of the house - right. He counted the left side of the house - perfect. He counted the right side of the house - perfict. He counted the back of the house - perfect again. He counted the bricks in the chimney - you know it, perfect. He even counted the bricks around each and every flower bed, along the sidewalks, along the driveway, around the pool, in the fireplace, everywhere - perfect.
For days, he went on counting - over and over. Finally, one day, in a fit of frustration, HE THREW THE BRICK UP IN THE AIR!!!!!!!!!!
... I know - it's lame.
Congrats on your new job!!!
