CMP order is turning out to be a pain in the ass..

Well, here I am trying to make my first purchase from CMP.......I've got my membership in a CMP-affiliated club, etc.

I had everything ready for my order, but now I realize that I also have to provide Proof of U.S. Citizenship. My first thought was to make a copy of my driver's license but according to the document that's not good enough.

I don't have a Passport, and my birth certificate is at my mother's house....All I've got handy is a DD214. Is that considered proof of citizenship?

    I don't think a DD214 will work but a certified birth certificate issued by your state should work. For my passport I went to the county health dept. and they gave me a certified copy.

    What are you ordering from them?

    Correct me if I am wrong but unless you are/were a commissioned officer you don't have to be a citizen to be in our military? In that case I doubt a DD214 would work. I just bought another very nice M1 from Mark Christian this afternoon.

    Since around 1998 those are good for nothing but voting. They are no longer acceptable as proof of citizenship for employment, travel into our out of the USA (even before the new passport regulations) or anything else.

    Just some 30-06 ammo.

    I called mom to see if she could scan the birth certificate and email it to me.....Honestly, I think theres a better chance of Aliens landing in the backyard than receiving that email.

    Depends on your DD 214. If the box (upper left area of the form) is checked that says "U.S. Citizen", you're good to go. Not all DD 214 forms have this. Mine does, and I've been buying rifles through the CMP based on this for years. Good luck.

    Mine doesn't have that box on it....

    It does have a social security #, but I don't suppose that counts....

    I started to order some of that 30-06 also and just gave up the paper work was not worth it.

    Ended up buying on GB and paid just a little more without the Hassel. Think I ended up paying less on shipping so it was about the same.

    If your mother can't find your birth certificate right away, you can get a copy from the county courthouse where you were born. They usually charge for copies but may be willing to send/fax/e-mail it to you. Either the County Clerk or Register of Deeds depending on the state where you were born. I'd give them a call if all else fails.

    The 30.06 ammo I got from CMP is old Lake City stuff and has an occasional hang-fire but the brass is great for reloading once you clean out the primer crimp. The three service grade M-1's I got from CMP are all great rifles.

    Maybe your Social senility security card would work? When I went to get a driver's license here in Indiana, I had to have a Gov't ID, a utility bill (to establish residence) plus my social security card. They wouldn't even accept my Military ID as proof of citizenship/SSN.

    DD-214 is good to waive the marksmanship requirement and I believe it will work for the citizenship requirement. You can order your GCA membership at the North or South Store for club affiliation. Just remember that all the hoops you are jumping through are worth every jump when you have your CMP Garand in your hand....noonelse even comes close to the CMP in what you get for your money. Beach

    Hey, Rack Ops, look here for the ammo: www.m1garandrifle.com. Tony just asks for a copy of your DL and a statement saying you're not a criminal and are eligible to purchase and receive ammo. His is the same stuff the CMP has, and no hoops to jump through. I scanned my eligibility statement and e-mailed it to him after I called and talked about the ammo order, and he shipped it right away. Prices are a little higher, but worth it IMO.

    Even with that box checked it is not good enuff!

    I went through the whole thing when I moved to South Carolina to transfer my drivers licence. It is basicly a birth certificate only. There are a couple other documents that will work but I cannot remember off the top of my head what they are. But none of them were military papers.

    if you have a U.S. Military retirement,Disabled,Active or Reserve ID card the CMP will take that.

    Don't know about South Carolina's laws, but that checked citizenship box works for the CMP. As I said earlier, that's what I've always used.

    But if your 214 doesn't have it, a birth certificate works just fine.

    As expected, I'll have to scan my birth certificate this weekend....

    Figured I'd get a jump on the process by filling out the mail-in order form....just saw that the damn thing has to be notarized.....

    This whole process is pissing me off to no end.....

    All this to purchase a couple hundred rounds of ammo, sheesh.....

    correct, i knew a sgtmaj usmc who was an italian citizen.

    SgtMajor is a Non-commissioned officer.

    ***Update***

    I finally got my information scanned. I called the CMP's store earlier today, to find out how to go about making the order.

    They couldn't have been nicer. They asked me to send my information in via email, along with whatever I wanted to order.

    Got 480 rnds of 30-06 for $127.00 (shipping included). My Garand (and Savage) will be happy now [^]


    It was much easier once I got the ball rolling.
