Rifle Case: Soft or Hard?

Just wanted to get some opinions on which choice is better for general purpose use w/ a scoped rifle

    I have to go semi-long distances (45+ minutes) to go to hunting areas, which is a lot of bumps and potholes. I put my rifle in a hard case, b/c it's 45+ minutes BACK home, too. Why risk it?

    A friend dropped my shotgun that I had in a soft case and the rib got bent, most of the time it's in a hard case when traveling

    I carry all of mine in hard cases. I like the extra security they afford. If I were to get in a car accident on the way to the range or hunting, it would only make it worse if my guns were damaged too.

    I've talked to a few of my bowhunting buddies about why they would use a soft case. They wanted to save money and really hadn't thought about it. I told them " you have a 600.00-700.00 dollar bow and you're putting it in a 15.00 case. They seen the light and upgraded to hard cases. I don't know why anybody would use a soft case to try and protect something that is valuable to them...my .02 ....Bull[8D]

    hard case, only thing a soft case is good for would be a cheap hunting shotgun.

    I always opt for a hard case...even the cheap ones are better than the best soft ones.

    You might want to check out some of the reviews on hard cases. In many instances, they're no better than the soft cases.

    As for me, I use a hard case when I travel by air and only because I have to. Otherwise, I use a soft case.

    I like my soft ones mainly because of all the Mag pockets it has, and it prutects my AR's and AK's fine. For hunting rifles I sually use a soft scoped case as well.

    Go with a hard one, if you need to fly with your rifle, you'll HAVE to buy one anyhow..

    I often run to the range in a car..(30 miles to a gallon vs. 15.)

    I can get a dozen rifles in with a soft case..vs. 3-4 hard cases.

    Or...behind the seat in the truck...one hard case... several soft cases.

    Packed carefully, I have had no problems with damage.

    As long as the gun is under my control and in a vehicle, I've never had an issue with a soft case. However, transporting a gun outside my control or in a vehicle (not in my hands) while off road, a hard case is best.
