I'm pretty sure this is bad news . . . Update
Early this morning at around 4:00 AM, I got a call that a good friend of mine had gone to the hospital in an ambulance. I drove up to the hospital and found his wife. She told me they were doing an emergency heart bypass.
I waited around until he was out of surgery. The doctor told the family that he thought he would be okay, but things hadn't gone as planned and there were a few complications.
I stayed a little longer until it looked like things were stable, then told Donna I was going home to check on Sandy and get her something to eat. I told her I would call back later today and come spell her so she could go home and get some rest.
I called the ICU to talk to her, and they said, "I'm sorry, you need to contact the family."
I told them that's what I was trying to do, we had an agreement to hook up this afternoon so I could come stay with Steve and she could go home, and all I needed to know was if she was ready for me to come.
The reply was, "No one from the family is here, and you need to contact them directly for any information."
I asked what Steve's condition was, and the reply was, "We have no one with that name in the ICU at this time, and you need to contact the family for any current information."
Donna doesn't answer the home phone or the cell phone, and now I'm worried. Guess I'll make a run by the house and the hospital to see if I can confirm my fears and see if I can help.
Dang, this doesn't look good.
Update
He passed away a little after 2:00 PM this afternoon. The world is one less in the good guy catagory. God bless Steve. We were better off knowing you.[V]

Could be they also Have a ICU set up just for Cardiac care. So the regular ICU would not know any news and with the new laws cannot pass on ony info.

It sounds like the hospital was trying to help you all they could with their "you need to contact the family." Even that is pushing the HIPPA Law a bit.0 -
