Amt Automag V latest aquisition
Thought some of you may like to see my latest aquisition, it's an Amt Automag V in 50 Ae caliber. They are pretty rare, and extremly hard to find. I got it along with 15 rounds, 45 bullets, and 75 pieces of brass and a holster for $475!! : }
After shooting it, I did determine that the ejector was broken, but other than that it works fine!!! It is a friggin cannon and quite a handfull!! The flame that comes out of the dual ports is awesome!!It's up to the gunsmiths now getting a new ejector and getting a good look over!!
One like this with a broken hammer spur went for $700 on GB th eother day, so I think I done well!!

I bet you can't limp wrist that one and get away with it. Don 0 -
Cool!! 0 -
Yeah it's kinda hard to conceal!!![:D] 0 -
Did it still eject most of the time with all that pressure?
High Standard will fix it up right and check it over for about $100.
They are the AMT guys now.0 -
With the broken ejector, it just kept stove piping. On the last round when the slide locked back, it ejected clear.
I knew High Standard had some parts and are making the Automag III, which has a lot of interchangeable parts, but I didn't realize they would service the Automag V. I'll have to look into that.
Thanks0 -
As I understood it, they took the machining and the parts inventory.
Excellent people with which to speak on the phone.
They apologized to me for having a minimum bench charge, when my newly acquired
AMT DAO Backup needed only a new striker spring and new recoil spring.
I think they are in Texas.0 -
I fired them off an email, I will let ya know what they say when they respond!!
Thanks Sperry0 -
ejector most likly missing - when the slide is removed, it just falls off - real easy to replace if lost or broken - just set a new one in the slot and reassemble the gun. 0 -
I love the 50AE[8D] 0 -
Sounds like you did good! I saw that 50 with the broken spur, thought it went a bit high.
Question: How's your slide/frame fit?
Last month I picked up two AMT longslide 45acp's. The top ends looked good but the frames looked like sandcastings and the ejectors were spot welded in place ... the fit was so sloppy you probably couldn't hit the side of a barn from the inside! I put the top ends on Kimber polymer frames and they shoot great!0 -
Nice Find[:p] 0 -
Slide frame fit is good!!! The gun is very accurate, I was shooting a very tight group at 25 yards!! I purchased an ejector from Numrich and I took the handgun up to the local pistol smith to have it all checked over, Seems the violent recoil on these guns is hard on equipment, the hammer strut was bent, but thanks to the guys at the Automag forum, I found out why. You cannot release the hammer with the slide removed, or damage to the hammer strut will result.
We managed to straighten the hammer strut, I am currently trying to locate a xtra or two as we speak. Im told the Automag III is interchangerable, and High Standard has parts for them, as they have reintroduced production on it!0 -
Good buy! I'm also looking for one to round out the AMT collection , but I'd really like to pay the price you paid!
