Mossbergboogie
Just got done cleaning my dads work Mossberg 590, and I was telling him it was not broke in enough. On the other two 500's his and mine for hunting each of them I can depress the slide unlock and drop the slide down with very little effort. The 590 is much tighter, but that might have only had 15 rounds through it so far.

    Don't worry, after a few more rounds, it will rattle just like all other Mossbergs. [:)]

    is it a 590 or 590A1, the A1s are a tighter by design

    Just do me a favor and read my thread on Mossberg Military/Police-Yes the Wal-mart 500 may look cheap but have you ever shot a Model 590 Military,Model 500 Mils,Model 500 Bullpup 12,500 Atp6s,500 Atp8 or other Police variations? I still hunt with a 1947 185d 20 GA.-Just giving Mossberg the credit they are due-Cahas

    Make sure the end cap isn't on too tight. I have both the 500 and 590 and the tightness on the end will affect the smoothness of the pump

    I have a very old Mossberg model 810. I have shot more than a few rabbits and tree rats with that gun. It is still tight, granted its not a pump, but bolt action.

    Not all mossbergs are junkers, just the walmart cheapies.

    I have a mossy 500 that I've had for probably 25+yrs, and it's never
    givn me a problem. Matter-o-fact it outshot my Dad's Ithica.[:)]

    They are good basic shotguns that will last a long time if taken care of. I had a 20 gauge 500 for years as a barn gun. It would sit for weeks between shooting sometimes and get a fine film of rust all over. Once a year I'd dip it in old oil, clean it and that was all it ever needed to keep working. A buddy of mine saw it once and gave me what I had paid for it, so I sold it to him. Been 8 years and he is still using it though he doesn't clean it as often as I did.

    I have an 835 that I got with 2 barrels in 1996. Didn't see a whole lot of use in the first 9 or so years, other than hunting rabbits, geese, dove, turkey, and deer. I started shooting skeet with it 2 years ago though, and have had about 4-5 cases through it since then. Never had a single problem with it yet.

    Get back to us on that, once your shooting a case a week, and keeping up that pace for a couple of years.
