How to vent a drier?

We have a rental house that has a full basement. There is a utility room there where the washer and drier are. We have a lint trap that is a five gallon bucket. The hose comes from the drier and there is a plastic disc about 8 inches wide that the hose goes into. This disc sets halfway down in the bucket. You put 4 inches of water in the bucket and this traps the lint.
This is a real half ass lint trap. About half the lint just blows around the house.
This basement is under ground. There is a little window in this room just below the ceiling, the window is right at ground level. Could the drier be vented through this window? What is the spec for how high you can run the vent pipe? The drier sets about ten feet from this window.

If you can't vent the drier through this window, is there a better lint trap?

    There is no spec that I know of.Board up half the window and put the vent through it.

    This is exactly how the drier is vented at my parents house and has been for all the years so I know it can and works.

    you can go farther than ten feet if you use pvc, which is really the best way yo go, pvc does not catch the lint, and build up like those hoses, you can combine the two to get to the window if needed then so as usmc stated, and then all you need is a vent flap to keep the critters out

    when I was in idaho I rented a basement apt.
    I use gray pvc piping, ran it to the window
    then used a reg dryer vent.
    worked great.

    Your issue is not so much the lint, as the water vapor you are dumping inside the house with each load of laundry. Excess water vapor + wood+ paper covered sheetrock= compost. yes, use the window. Get the water vaport outside.

    Allen we remodeled the kitchen in 2003 and stacked the washer and dryer in a closet. The dryer was vented into the wall and straight up through the roof. Your vent through the window will work, but may deposit lint all over the yard.

    Is the ceiling finished? If not, can you run it through the end cap, between the joists? If you can't, use the window as suggested.

    agman1999 is on the right track, drill a hole thru the rim joist and exterior siding-brick and install a vent hood with a flapper. Leave the window as is.
