LEO's concerned over new fad. Colored guns.

We've all seen them. "Designer" Guns w/pink or other non-traditional colored gun finishes.
Recent news story on TV says that the LEO community is concerned by this trend. It makes them hard to tell from toy guns. Put's the cops at risks of either mistakenly shooting an unarmed person, or being shot because they hesitated.
Never thought much about it until now. A pink or sky blue gun isn't my style. But I think they have a point. Your thoughts?

    I wouldn't buy either, though my mother (which has always dislikes guns till she got to handle my Seecamp .32) saw a pink Kel-Tec and wanted me to bid on it for her. I denied that request and have been pushing the subject of a revolver that she can shoot both a .38 or a .357 from. I figure easier to operate, less change of failure, plus those more stopping power for about the same $

    while it sounds like a legitimate complaint since when did they ever identify a gun to begin with, many many people have been shot while holding a item that does not resemble a gun in the first place, and on the other side if you point a fake gun at a leo you deserve to be shot anyway

    now if they start painting the muzzle bright orange we may have issues

    They can not distinguish toy pistols now that have a black finish, or a toy revolver in a chrome finish. What is a few more colors?

    My thoughts are they should not be allowed to make a real firearm look like a toy or a toy like a real gun. When your out there dealing with it every day it changes the way you think about it, trust me!

    OK, I know you are right and all, but I can't help but ask.

    Are you advocating "gun control" on toy guns? Because that is kinda what it would be. A law (the control part) stating it is illegal to make a toy gun look like a real gun (the gun part).

    I think what another poster stated is the better answer to colored guns. If you point something at an armed LEO, and it looks like a gun, and you look like someone old enough to know better, then you deserve to get shot.

    This just in:

    Police voice "concerns" that they can't distinguish potentially violent folks from law-abiding citizens, because many of them have the same color.

    "I met some dark colored people who lived in the same house as other dark colored people who were convicted wife-beaters and murderers. This is very distressing to Law Enforcement."

    Another Police administrator said "Before long, we'll actually have to look first and shoot second. This is not how we do things. It's an unfair burden on us to actually have to make these types of split-second decisions. Everyone should have to comply with whatever we need to make our jobs easier. We are the Police, after all."

    Police are suggesting that potentially violent people, shoud attempt to identify themselves with certain colors, in order to make Police feel "safer".

    WHEN THE POLICE GET EVERYTHING THEY WANT TO MAKE THEM FEEL ALL SNUGGY-WUGGLY SAFE AND HAPPY....YOU HAVE A POLICE STATE!

    tr fox, I guess if you look at it that way I am. There is no excuse manufactures of toy guns cant plainly make them with bright very visable orange barrels etc. We just lost one local Officer who happened to be a long time good friend. He shot himself in his cruiser while on Duty for reasons his PD has ask to keep quite because of the sensitivity of it to the family and the PD. I sure dont want to loose one because he was trying to distinguish whether a gun pointed at him was real or not.

    When Jim Zumbo visited Ted's ranch to do his mea culpa Nugent made him fire this gun.

    The only control I want on toy guns such as Air Soft is to keep them out of Gun Shows.

    Got tired of Kids Picking up real guns and pointing them at peoplethinking they are AirSoft.

    Makes me want to find the Parent and Punch him out.

    While I certainly agree that it is one of the dumber things one can do, I do not agree one "deserves" to die for it.


    I think this another tempest in a tea pot. There is certainly nothing to stop me from painting orange on my real gun to fool the cops if I want to shoot one or two. Police have shot people armed with cell phones, exactly how are pink guns going to complicate that? The first thing they say is "On the ground!" Whether cops are the great evil some believe they are, the saintly public servants others see, or mostly very decent guys with a few banty rooster bullies thrown in, if you are getting on the ground now, and complaining later, it will not matter what color your gun is. If you are not paying attention and are waving around a black, silver, or pink gun or even a cell phone, you are at risk. That ain't hard to understand.

    There may be a concern among a small anti-gun faction of police, but there is no widespread concern that I am aware of.

    Ok, so there are colored guns now. Don't use one criminally, or point it at a cop, or display it in a threatening manner and this is a non-issue. If you do any of the above, you suffer the consequences of your actions, period.

    Seems more likely that this is another attempt to make a "subtle" negative attack on firearms and to use the police in general to try and give it credibility.

    Old trick, but still pretty effective in todays TV culture and with our massive apathy and the abject ignorance of our citizens.

    And lo and behold, Mr Zumbo suddenly understood the real meaning of Amendment II and changed his life-long views.......Yeah right.

    I thought it was the black guns that were bad. Now we have to worry about pink guns being bad too???

    Personally.....The color of your weapon wouldn't make any difference to me if your holding up a liquor store. You'll get shot..! If we are at the range and you have a nice pink chrome 1911...I'll just chuckle..The situation will dictate the degree of concern. You choose to use a toy during the commission of a crime...That's your problem.
