Police Swabbing Mouths During Traffic Stops In Serial Killer Hunt

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Police officers in Daytona Beach are swabbing the mouths of persons of interests during traffic stops with special DNA kits in the hunt for an elusive serial killer, sources close to the investigation told Local 6.
Investigators said they believe the same man has killed four women execution style in the Daytona Beach area.
A profiler said the serial killer is likely clean cut and probably has a wife or girlfriend.
And, the Daytona Beach police Chief, Mike Chitwood, said detectives have the killer's DNA.
"Genetically, we know who he is," Chitwood said. "We have DNA evidence from the murder scenes -- so, we got that. That is never going to go away. And, sooner or later, we will match the DNA to the physical person and bring closure to everything that is going on."
Agents are using the DNA kits to collect as much DNA as possible during traffic stops and special operations in hopes on making a match.
Local 6 showed agents stopping a person of interest from Canada, who gave his DNA to officers on the street using the DNA kit.
The DNA kits are also being used in prostitution stings in the area.
Chitwood said over time, modern technology will lead to the killer.
"I can tell you that we are working really, really hard," Chitwood said. "I can tell you that there are a lot of things going on behind the scenes."
Anyone with information concerning the deaths is urged to call a new serial killer hotline at 888-619-5734.

It has been my understanding that a search warrant is needed to obtain DNA samples. Why the hell are people willingly submitting to this? What the hell is next, bar code tatoos?
If they had the killer's fingerprints, would they fingerprint everyone? [V]0 -
...Big Brother is always after you IF you give your consent. I understand from reading/hearing about this from several news sources consent is required; or least the dozen times Ive heard about this that was the case...[;)]

You are correct. A search warrant or your permission. If you don't want to do it, just say no thanks.
I would probably do it to get off the suspect list, and I wouldn't have anything to lose sine "Big Brother" already has my DNA anyway.0 -

I've been fingerprinted more times than I could possibly remember, and most of the time they came back as unclassifiable and had to do it again.0 -

I agree James. I want "THE MAN" to have my DNA.Because i don't want to have to have an ALIBI, for ANYTHING. I don't rob,rape,kill,or in any other way harm other people.0 -

What happens when your replicated DNA is splashed on to a crime scene... YOU DID IT absolutely positively you done it...

it wont be long before your swabbed at birth and entered into the d-base. cant say id really disagree too much, as fihskiller said, i dont commit crimes, so im not worried about it. and i doubt folks will be replicating dna to distribute at their crime scenes. 0 -

I got throw down the buill shnit flag on this one. That's a lot of DNA for labs to go through...like they have the time and man power. Shoot, LA is behind on the DNA from 7,000 rape kits. 0 -
Unreasonable search - end of discussion, tell them no, and if they insist, tell them where they can stick their swab.
Consenting because you "have nothing to hide" just re-enforces in the cops mind that they can do whatever they want, regardless of the constitution.
Btw, I collect DNA samples, and copy Human DNA as part of my job - but its not what you think - it involves Rice plants with Human genes in them.
