Economic Collapse Plan?
Am I the only one who is concerned (actually, pissed off) about this new "Stimulus plan".

Some idiots took home mortgages they couldn't afford, now they are suffering the consequences. Some stores that sell useless crud made in China aren't selling their crud anymore, big deal.
The US is in debt, which leads to devaluing of currency, which reduces capital available for investors to create jobs. (sure they had 20 million to invest, but when 20 million buys a loaf of bread, what then? of course this is taken to the extreme).
While we are in debt, what do we do? "FREE MONEY FOR EVERYONE!", because, its election time after all:

Tax rebates for people who don't even work and pay taxes!
Lets give everyone money! that will somehow make the US more productive?
Those who had resources in the form of US $$$ will find they have only paper, and the economy will collapse.
This will make inflation so much worse, the national debt so much worse, and turn a decline in the economy into a plummet.
I know gold prices are high now, but I'm sinking all my money (except what I need month to month) into gold, guns, and ammo (and other assorted toys that can be resold) before this plan takes effect.

Being in debt in and of itself doesn't devalue currency - printing it like it was going out of style to pay for the war in Iraq does.
When you're saddled with a bill that runs above nine digits and you've just cut taxes? Well, that money's got to come from somewhere and someone saw fit to just print it.0 -
I just don't get this "rebate".
It seems to me that they are just giving us our own money back.
And... since the gubment is in multiple deficit situations, please 'splain to me how this plan will help ??

Those politiacians and pundits thought we could pay $3.00 gasoline without any problems. I could blame Bush and big oil, or blame Al Gore and the socialist democrats that want high prices to discourage the use. I'll blame all of them. 0 -

china is winning the war from with-in with out raising a gun and most people are too stupid to see it.
We borrow 150 billion from china for the rebate that goes to everybody. People buy 60-65% china made products so the money goes back to china and their acconomy is great. China collects intrest from U.S. on loan and they gain again. Only China is going to make out on this plan. Take the 150 billion and set up industry in this nation and put people to work making a desent wage and the acconomy will be back to being strong and the money stays here. Nothing is made in the usa anymore. Every little town and city had a factory or industry that people worked at and made money at that stayed locally. Now, your money is all going oversea's.0 -

I don't know what to call this thing, but "rebate" is incorrect.
I saw the last part of a Q&A with the Assistant White House Economic Advisor" last night... didn't get it all, but:
- Whatever we get will be taxable in 2008.
- I didn't see the entire discussion... thought I heard him say this is actually an advance on your 2008 tax return, which you would normally recieve in 2009. That would make it an advance, rather than rebate.
I don't think most of us understand it yet - but its not "free money", as I have heard it advertised. Of course, for those who pay no taxes, its a gift, or another welfare program.0 -

Thanks. You saved me some typing. Yes, it was reduced so the Dems could stand up for the poor and give free money away to everybody, every highschool kid, that made 3k last year, and didn't even have to pay in any taxes. Oh, those kind hearted human beings. [8)]
As for being taxed on it... They better factor it into the tax tables for us because I'll be damned if I'm claiming it next year. Didn't claim the last one.
I'm amazed at how this government always believes that everything will magically be better down the road so it'll be ok to penalize people at a later time.0 -

I firmly believe that we are on an economic collapse plan aimed at removing the U.S. from an indepentant World Power status and bring us to eventual takeover of some type of One World Govt.
The plan that is already being carried out is aimed directly at the American Middle class. The upper and lower classes will not experience much real change.
The middle class will experience much tighter budgets for which they will be required to put forth more effort to maintain.(see fuel prices) And will be forced into a "sheepole" lifestyle where they can't afford to buck the system.0 -

downward spiral since 9/11? Wish, for the life of me, I could find the
statement I heard once that Osama bin Laden was going to take us down
economically. Wonder if our present predicament is part of the plan or

Well, doesn't it seem strange that w/all our tech, we can't locate him?
He's using computers, most of which systems reportedly run thru the U.S. He uses cell phones which we should be able to locate.
Reportedly we have located and targeted him on several occasions. Only have the missions called off by the Top Brass.

Too me, we need to look at what worked and what didn't work in the great depression.
Government handouts didnt end the great depression, or even help much at all.
The government needs to do something that will create jobs, some public works projects - the TVA employed people to build dams, which generated electricity.
The money they got wasn't a handout, they worked hard to earn their wages, and the end result was something productive, a hydro power plant.
Instead, we give people money to sit on arse, how is that going to do anything productive?
150 billion for economic stimulus?
My plan - 400 billion economic stimulus, but it wouldn't be handouts, it would be a 400 billions dollar public works project.
For 400 billion, we could build a solar energy production and storage facility in the southwest to supply the electricity needs for the entire nation, producing enough surplus during the day and summer for the night and winter.
This is a plan put together by scientists and engineers, not politicians (no politician has even talked about it).
Free health care? Free welfare? How about some jobs and free energy.
If you don't pay for the electricity to run your business (or pay only minimal taxes for maintenance of the grid, not purchase of oil at over $100 per barrel), then your profit margin increases, and you can employ more people at higher wages in AMERICA, rather than ship it overseas.
The only economic stimulus plan I could support, is something that directly creates jobs and produces long term benefits. Government handouts that will lead to a devaluing of currency, and a subsequent effective paycut for me(my wage wont increase, but its value will decrease), are terrible ideas, brought about by tryingto pander to the stupid masses with a quick fix before the election.0 -

Amazing how such a plan can be thought of by a single person. A commoner. When there's groups, panels, of college educated people coming up with this stuff for us. Makes you wonder what the real goal is.
Infrastructure is crumbling. The bridge collapse in Minnesota. That thing should have stood the test of time for centuries with proper maintenance. Yet it collapses. Most public works systems in small towns around the country are outdated and failing. One hundred years old or more. While people's tax money is mainly struggling to keep the school system's afloat.
Yeah, you'd think it could be more wisely spent on infrastructure. But, maybe it is better it is going directly into our pockets. At least it can't be stolen from on it's way to the end goal.0 -

Jobs? We HAVE Jobs. Unemployment has been at an all time low. Even with in influx of illegal immigrants. Get rid of the Illegals and pay fair wages for OUR PEOPLE to work.
What IMO we need is LESS GOVT.
I agree that cutting out the social programs for those that WON"T WORK is a good idea.
Medical: How about some fairness here? Get rid of all bogus mal-practice lawsuits and un-needed insurance and get some reasonable rates back. And make those bastages TELL YOU how much it's going to cost. It's absolute BS that you see ONE doctor and get a bills from 10. 9 of which you never saw, heard of or know what if anything they did. If you have X proceedure done, they should tell you it will cost X price. With everything included.
When you get a flat fixed on your car, they don't say "Bill will losen the lug nuts. Bob will take them off, John will pull the wheel off the studs and Mark will put it on the machine etc. And you will pay ALL of them seperately.
If I go to X hospital, I expect ONE bill from X hospital. They should have all inclusive billing to cover all staff members used.
And it's BS that Americans are FORCED to pay extrordinarilyy HIGH prescription prices over what the rest of world pays. Supposedly to cover research costs. LET EVERYONE from everywhere PAY HIS FAIR SHARE!
And as much I like capitalism. The practice that we have you by the gonads, so we can charge any price we like (IE: OIL companies) to get outladishly high profits is just plain WRONG. There should be some kind of restrictions on this.0 -

After Clinton's massive cuts in the military (Started by Bush Sr.) you can build that military back up, wage an EXPENSIVE war, and CUT taxes at the same time? Some plan....[xx(]
All he has to do is, prop up the economy (fake or real doesn't matter in his book, as long as it works) postpone the inevitable for one more year. Then he can hand the reigns over to.........well, we will see.0 -
