Pickup bed covers

Looking at getting a soft roll up type bed cover for my pickup. Not interested in a hard cover at all.

Any thoughts on installation, brands,features or anything else I should know?

    Can't recall the brand but I have one on my 2006 Chevy. The biggest problem is that in the cold the damn thing contracts so badly that if you roll it up to carry something tall in the bed it's a nightmare to pull it back down to snap it it closed. No trouble in warm weather at all.

    I had thought about these before but couldn't find one that didn't show problems within a few years.

    One type hooked on with snaps that you had to drill into the sides of the bed. All of them rusted within a year or so, first the snaps but then it would spread to the bed itself.

    The other type connected with velcro. Either the cover was always coming off because the velcro wouldn't hold or the velcro would hold but the glue holding it to the bed wouldn't.





    The one I finally liked was made by Pace-Edwards I think. I'll try to look up a link for you. It was very expensive and rolled into a container in the front of the bed, had metal supports throughout and only needed rails mounted on the inside of the bed rails.

    I think these can also be locked. It is the best compromise between hard and soft covers I ever found.

    Had a soft one... too easy to get into... this is the one I am looking into now..

    ahh, very good tip. It gets colder than hell here.

    Mine clamps to the bed, no drilling. Been almsot 2 years and no signs of rust yet. Still looks new, too.

    Of course it will wear out eventually. All things do. I figure it was about $350 and if it goes 5 years that's about $1.25 per week to have it.

    No, the soft cover is not theft-proof so if you need security you need a hard cover.

    I don't know what colors are offered but I like the black on my yellow truck.

    I had one from thatn company (iirc) and it was called a Roll-N-Lock. Worked like a rolltop desk, and worked great. Cost about $800.

    For $800 you can buy a fiberglass hardtop--painted to match your truck color.

    Same one my buddy has on his 02 Dodge. Locks up tight, and is waterproof. Nice looking cover too.

    I much preffered the roll-n-lock over a hard cover, as I often
    actually used my truck.[;)] Hauling motorcycles, or riding mowers and such. With a hardtop you can't eeven begin to maximize
    your hauling potential.

    The advantage to the fiberglas top is security and durability.

    The disadvantage is that you have to completely remove and store it when loading large items. The soft cover can be rolled up in the store parking lot without making a special deal about it.

    The hard cover is also heavier. I saw one that weighed 150 pounds and that's a significant load to carry around.

    You choose what suits your needs.

    I got a Truxedo made by Shurco. It has a lifetime warranty and the factory is only about 30 minutes away.

    Saw them at the farm show today and drove over to the factory outlet store and bought one.
