Clive Cussler

Just dove into his newest novell "Treasure of Kahn" that I got for Christmas - About discovering the hidden tomb of Genghis and Kublai Khan. So far it's pretty good! He is my favorite author (after the late L. Ron Hubbard).

    Anyone here read "Arctic Drift"? This is one co-written with his son. It is the most Liberal "save the planet" one that I have seen. I am about 1/3 through it. This just may be the last one I read if this is what they are going to be about from now on!

    I am reading "The Wrecker" by Clive Cussler right now and about 75% done. It is a great story about trains (and someone wrecking them) and politics in the early 20th century. I reccommend it to any Cussler fans!

    Slip: givette here. I haven't delved into Cussler in years. Is he still using the NUMA/Pitt/Al Giordino gang? Thanks, Joe

    is it written only by him or is it with someone else. I read one of the ones with Paul Kemprekos (or something like that) and it wasn't as good as his old stuff like Inca Gold (that was the first one I ever read).

    His newest novel is "The Chase". I bought it last week and finished it a couple of days ago. It's unlike any previous novel of his. Western, circa 1906, a bank robber, and the only part dealing with water is a sunken train.

    Quite good actually, but not his genre for sure. It's on the bookstore shelves now and it's not a collaboration.[:)]

    I highly recommend, "The Chase" by Cussler. It, interestingly enough, has nothing to do with NUMA, the ocean, boats, etc. It is very, very different from what he is used to writing, but I cleared through the book in two days because I couldn't put the thing down.

    He uses his usual twists and tweaks of history to tell the story, and the whole book takes place at the turn of the 20th century.

    This is a traditional Dirk Pitt novell with the whole gang. The Paul Kemprekos series feature "Kurt Austin".

    Cussler is trying to get his son to take over the Dirk Pitt writing so he co-authored this novel with him. I have read 2 of the Austin stuff and they are not bad.

    What REALLY sucks is that Clive was at a book signing at B&K 15 minutes from my house and I found out about it the day after the event was over. Arrgghh!

    I suggest you buy/borrow "Sea Hunters" - this is his non-fiction series of real marine salvage operations including the Hunley. It is a collection of short non-fiction accounts of the salvage of sunken ships. Clive Cussler in real life does this. He was instrumental in the discovery if the Hunley.

    I guess I vaguely knew that. I just did not think he was a very good writer. On the otherhand, it could be me, treasure hunting does not interest me much.

    Cussler (er, Dirk Pitt) recovers the bow-ram from the Hunley in, I think it's titled "deep six". The one with the swapping of the presidential yacht/nerve gas drums leaking, etc. Joe

    I have read all his books. My son is reading them now. The library knows we will be in when a new one comes out!
