Toyota Tacoma or Dodge Dakota?????
I hope this does not sound too philosophical, but "To buy a Toyota Tacoma or Dodge Dakota, that is the question?" [?]
I'll be using it for hauling an ATV, an occasional load of fire wood and the annual [:p] deer!
I will probably get a slightly used one, but I could pop for a new one! What do you think?
(Another possible use would be to put a little camper on it for short trips with the wife, but that should not be a big consideration in this choice.)

Own a Dodge, got about seventy eight thousand on it in five years, been to the dealer twice for warranty and once for a malfunction that I paid for. Good truck, Service is good. Window regulators a bit weak. Toyota has an excellent service record, ours has 166,798 on it tonight. Runs like a charm, occasional brakes, one water pump, one Air flow sensor and regular services and tunes. Can't loose on that deal either. 0 -
toyota. my first car/truck was an 87 4x4 with 51,000 miles. i sold it with 225,000 miles and i only replaced a starter the whole time.
i have never owned a dodge so i cant comment on them.
i think toyotas have gone a little yuppie recently though and they are a little expensive, still cheaper than ford or chevy though.0 -

Dodge Dakota. hands down. Especially if you can find an R/T model. 0 -
Tacoma. For as much as I drive and haul and utilize a truck, I can't afford to own anything but a Toyota. The rest will bankrupt you in repair costs.
If memory serves me correct, Toyota closed their Tacoma factory in Commifornia...and moved it to Texas next to the Tundra Factory.
And, without a doubt (look it up), Toyota trucks have more American made parts than any of the "big" 3.

i bought a 2001 taco 4d-4wd with the smaller v6..best is 22.5 mpg..had a 05 taco access cab WORST WIND NOISE of any vehicle i have ever owned and it had less than 70K miles .. tried 50 ft of foam tape ..no fix ..toyo body foreman said basic design flaw in cab up to 2013 ?? got rid of it fast...now 08 4d-4wd frontier..older toyo and niss with smaller v6 get good mileage... ones with 4.0 get lots lower 0 -

I recommend you stay away from the AccessCab. Either regular cab or quad cab. I owned a 2013 Access cab from new and it had alot of interior noise at highway speed. The 4.0 V6 is a gas pig 15 local/18-19 mpg on the highway.

Not if you have one of the ATVs that is in itself the size of a small truck. My Polaris 400 fits just right.........
The only real trouble I have had with Dakotas is with the transmission, BUT I have to take the blame for some of that problem due to bad driving habits...particularly shifting when the vehicle isn't completely stopped....
The biggest issue I have with them is that the gas mileage completely sucks. Don't bother with the 6 cyl thinking you will get better mileage.... you won't...And the newer ones are worse than the older ones.0 -
