AR-10
I NEED an AR-10 but only got a couple hundred bucks ... Someone help me out please. I could probably rustle up another 50, so would hope to get some extra mags too. Thanks, but I sooner not have it scoped .

I was wondering if anyone knows how much a Armalite AR-10 with a CKA lower reciever is worth? ITs either a portuguese or guatumalin style. 0 -
I'm looking into getting one as I like a bigger cartridge then a 223. Looking for a carbine. Everything on the auction side was Armalite. I don't know much about this company. Is it the only that makes them? Are they reliable?

RRA and DPMS both have the 308 ARs.

I don't have the Armalite, but I do have a DPMS AP4 in .308. I have it topped with a Trijicon "TriPower" and a co-witnessed flip-up rear sight.

The RRA is the same rifle Bushmaster built for a while. Known for feeding issues and get use to using the forward assist. Most of this is due to the use of FAL magazines. DPMS is a decent rifle, but I know of 17 different people locally that have had issues with them shearing takedown pins, still haven't figured out completely why yet and DPMS keeps saying that it is an operator cause incident but replaces them for free anyway. Funny though, haven't had this issue with my Armalites or RRAs in 223 or 308! I can say all this in an unbiased way because I have and had all of the above. I suggest an Armalite! Yes they don't have a forward assist, but unless you get the son-of-a-buck REALLY dirty or ride the charging handle, you won't need it. Whatever you decision I hope you are happy!

Don't hold your breathe for this rifle. They still don't even offer the 416 to civilians (don't hold your breathe for that one either). Fact is HK puts more focus on it's goverment contract's then it's civilian customers.
Get the Armalite. Or at least look at a Cobb MCR, FAL, or SAR 8.
I would get a Cobb MCR with a DSA FAL a close second if I had to pick right now.

the armalite is a good rifle.
I was impressed with the accuarcy.
I have the ar 50, ar 30 and ar 10.
if I want to reach out and touch
something at long range, I CAN
it will empty a mag as fast as I
can pull the trigger, has not jammed

The DPMS is a fantastic carbine in 308 as is the Armalite.
Rock River Arms (RRA) MIGHT have a good 308 IF THEY EVER GET IT OFF THEIR DRAWING BOARD AND INTO PRODUCTION. They unveiled it at SHOT 2006 with a early 2007 release date...and that keeps getting pushed back non stop. The latest word I got was it will be out in Feb 08...but dont hold them to that.
Bushmaster quit making their 308 a couple of years back. They now have the 450 Bushmaster (their propriatery cartidge made by Hornady). Shot a friends last month...it packs a punch. Hard to find the ammo and its not cheap.
RRA also make their 458 SOCOM rifle in an AR platform. Ammo is hard to find and not cheap either.
I am putting funds away to buy the DPMS 308B (18 inch bull barrel). Have heard lots of good things about it.0 -

If you go for the DPMS in a Bull Barrel, I recommend not getting one with the tele-stock or skeleton stock. They are severly off balance. I have eyeballed them for quite awhile here a few years back, until I picked one up! The ones with the standard stock were better balanced and if you utilze buttstock weights it actually balances out quite nice. Just some fore-warning![;)]

The only Armalite I have is an old AR10 from the 50's. It still functions like new. I personally prefer the M1A platform for a 308 caliber. 0 -
The "big one" on the left was the added about 2 years ago. It's a flat top Eagle Arms AR-10 and it dazzles me every time I give it a squeeze be it with iron sights or scoped.

HK announced last month that these will be available late 3rd quarter (calender year) this year to civilians. The HK 416 will be available slightly sooner. They are are least 50% US production so they will avoid the crap import rules also.
Yes, HK does put more focus on gov't because current import laws do not allow them to sell "assualt rifles" to US citizens. It's the fault of the import bans, not H&K.0 -
JT...I will put the MAGPUL PRS on it when I get it. I put one on my Bushy Predator and love the way it balances out now.
I would imagine the weight of it on the DPMS would help a bit too.0 -

On the DPMS, the weight/lack of balance wouldn't be a problem at all if the shoot did nothing but shoot it off a bench. But I shoot a lot in the sitting postion so it is quite uncomfortable.0 -

according to the RRA guy over at the ar15 forum, they still have not been released...perhaps later this month...perhaps.
I asked a stocking dealer in Houston about getting one and he said it is all just preorder stuff right now. Absolutely no dealer has one in stock that I talked to and have never had one. If I was to order now, they estimate an 8-14 week lead time to get it at best.
If you have seen one, please let me know where...I would like to get a chance to look one over and my dealer here would love to have one on his shelf to show.

One of the non-Armalites takes a FAL mag..is that the DMPS? Or was that the Bushmaster?? 0 -
It definitely isnt DPMS...they have their own mags...and they functional flawlessly.
RRA I know uses the Inch or Metric pattern mags...once again if they ever get them released.0 -
if it wasn't the DMPS it was the Bushmaster.
Buddy has a AR10B (replica of the original), but the mags are freaking expensive...modified M14 mags IIRC0 -

The day after halloween we had range day, and a buddy brought in a LAR-8 with colapsible stock, flat-top, quad rail and he had eotech 552xr308 plus a 4x FTS. I drooled over it, but did not get a chance to shoot it since everyone there wanted a go with it.
I'll ask him how/where he got it, I didn't realize he was a rarity.0 -

As an RRA dealer I was sent a flyer before Christmas that had their LAR-8 308 on a reduced price for a short time.
I assumed they were out if they reduced their price.0 -
