Anyone shot one, have one? What kind of accuracy? Any problems?

They would be nice rifles if not for Remington's in general lack of Quality Control recently. I have shot some early 597's and they were extremely accurate, and seemed reliable.

I have one of the early 597's in 22 mag.
It is very accurate and works flawlessly as long as I pretend it is a 5 shot clip instead of an 8. Put 5 in the clip and it has never malfunctioned. Put 8 in the clip and it will jam 25% of the time.

I'll have to try Lightning's technique with my .17HMR 597. First time I took it to the range it worked flawlessly with all 4 magazines I have for it. Second time, one of the mags became problematic. Last time, three of them acted up. In all instances, I've gone the full load (7-8 rounds) route. Next time I'll try 5 per. Other than that, I have it scope sighted at 100 yards and shoot 2-inch groups from bench rest on a windless day.
