What was the WORST gun you ever own?
...Actually I can think of two! 1967 I purchased my first new 22LR with two of my paychecks working as a busboy at Ellington AFB. It was a Winchester 190! Paid $59 for it and sold it for $25 3 yr.s later. What a sinker!!
Next was an Erma 22LR "Luger" ...got it at K-mart in 68, paid $59 for it ...it worked for 2 weeks and the firing pin broke. I took it back and picked up the other one they had and again 2 weeks later the firing pin broke again. Took it back again, but they didn't have any more "Lugers" and the only thing that caught my eye was a Colt single action buntline scout in 22LR for $69. So I coughed up the other $10 buck and never looked back. I sold that weapon in 1985 for $325!
Interesting note: In 1989 I was working with a "gun nut" and we were talking about Lugers ...and how expensive they were but would be nice to have a shooter. I guess I have been lucky as well.
The only one that I could say I didn't like at all was a Remington Model 7 SS in .260. The bore was really bad. It took two round of fire-lapping to get it to the point where it would print 3" groups at 100 yards and not take 2 hours to clean. It is the reason that I got into handloading though. I did finally get it to shoot good groups, then I sold it!0 -
I have liked all my guns. Can't say the same for trucks or wives.
The two UGLIEST guns I ever owned were among my top favorites. First was a 7x57 Mauser 98 that I cut down (yes, I know -- but this was in the 70s) and sporterized. Too cheap to buy a sporter stock. It still had the step barrel and military stock altho shortened. It was a fun shooter, although uglier than a 2 am girlfriend.
The other was a High-Point 9mm carbine that I bought from my stepson so he wouldn't go to jail for selling it to some drug dealer. Gave him $100 for it. Needed a few parts, and I'll tell you: HP mailed them to me ASAP no charge. It was FUN TO SHOOT! But ugly, and a cheap POS.0 -

Had a rifle stolen that they did me a favor on. S&W 30-06 Ultra Light thing about dislocated my shoulder. Would only shoot 2 or 3 rounds thru it when I took it to the range. It was a great looking gun, but Hell to shoot.0 -
S&W 66 Stainless .357.
You never knew if it was going to fire when you pulled the trigger or not. At times it would fire all six rounds and the next it may fire 2 out of six times when the trigger was pulled.
Paid $350.00 for it used. Spent about $150 having it looked at and left a couple of shops with the smithy shaking his head stating something to the effect of "don't know what nor why it is doing that".
Could not give it the guy fast enough that offered me $75.00 for it.
Ended my S&W ownership days for good.0 -
for me it was a high-point/ DAO.... .40S&W. When the pistol did fire, which wasn't very often, it was accurate only to 7 yards. At least one spent round per magazine would not eject correctly. After three trips back to the factory the dealer gave me another one. That was was only slightly better.... After one trip back to the factory I had enough and traded it in for a taurus/ pt-100 which I have never had a bit of trouble with it. 0 -

Ruger Mini-30:
I bought it to upgrade from my SKS Para for shooting speed challange, but the Mimi didn't shoot as tight of groups, was not as reliable and was slower to load than the SKS, so I sold it and kept shooting the SKS.0 -
Toss up between a Cobray mac 11 and a mutant oddity called a Weaver Nighthawk. Both jammed consistently and the Cobray liked to spit out an occasional unintentional multi-round burst. 0 -

Winchester Model 70 LWT .223. after glass bedding, and trigger job would still only pull 2in group at 100. NOT typical for my other 70's. Swapped it ot a Ruger MKII shoots Dime grops at 100. GO Figure.I really think it just had a bad bore 0 -

Not mine, but the wife inherited this Imperial .22 Short from her mother. Made from top quality pot metal. Probably as dangerous to the shooter as the target.

Really? i own one and it is a brush gun, did you know that? im very accurate at 75 to 100 yrds and could hit a small animal at 175 i think...could be the shooter not the gun
with a scope in a vise it shot 3" + groups. brush gun or not still patterned like a shotgun
I gotta agree, my Mini-14 was the same. Was getting soccer ball sized groups at 100yds.
2nd worst gun ever was my Charles Daly Semi-Auto 12ga I bought from Gaylyns. Paid $200 something for it new. Worked as a single shot only.0 -

How long were you at Ellington AFB? I grew up in that area of Texas. My folks still live in Webster Texas.
I agree with kumate, a Lama 45 acp was my least favorite gun to own.

I had a real nice H&R .22 rifle one time, but the trigger was awful, and so went the accuracy. I even had a local gunsmith tell me he could not fix it. The only other gun I ever had that was worse in terms of accuracy was my second chinaberry gun. I don't know what made it so inaccurate, but at something like ten feet the chinaberry might dart off two or three feet to the left or right, in no set pattern. I chunked it away about sixty years ago in disgust, because I never did win a chinaberry fight with it. 0 -

Unusual, a S&W DA revolver is usually one of the most reliable guns on the planet...was this in double action it wouldn't fire??0 -
Taurus PT-92...Even after some work and a trip back to the factory, it would not print anywhere close to point of aim. 0
