I've known other branch of service that did similar things. I do not envy anyone that served in the DC area unless they really like it. I would rather serve 20 years in BFE [:p].0 -

But my pop is one of a dying breed.HE's 83 now, and joined the "Army Air Corps" in 1943, at the tender age of 19.Served in the "CBI" Campaign,as a cargo plane wrench for the entire mission. Got discharged, and immediately went to work for the Navy, civil service,and worked for them until retiring in 1980.37 years. 0 -

What about the guys who spent 20 years in the guards to get out
of the draft ( back when we had a draft.) I for one do not consider
them to be veterans in any way shape or form. And tell them so whenever i hear one bragging about his many years of service.
(They are nothing more then draft dodgers in my opinion.)
