Plumbing Question
WHY would you have a connection to install a new shower head and you had to turn it LEFT to get it threaded???
I had to go back to Home Depot because I thought there was something wrong with the shower head and the nice guy showed me what I was doing wrong. He said there were probably other a few times something screwed on the wrong way!

I need to chamfer the drain hole that's on the bottom of the toilet tank. Too much flashing, etc. Gasket won't seat.
What do you plumbers (or others who have done it) recommend to chamfer the hole to eliminate the uneven sharp edge? I'm working with ceramic, and it is reason enough to seek the help of someone who has the experience. Thanks, Joe0 -
Thanks to some shoddy plumbing in my utility room the washing machine had been draining under the house. I was in the process of running a new drain line for it when the dishwasher let out and the water came back up the new line I had ran for the washing machine. The washing machine is at the end of the drain. I only have one drain line that runs the length of the house.
[?] If my main line isnt clogged what would cause this [?]
While under the house I noticed that there is only one air vent pipe. It connects to the drain line about 2 feet "up" from the kitchen sink (between the sink and utility room) Does this matter?

I'm thinking about moving our hot water heater. Many houses in this neighborhood (like ours) had the water heater installed in the attic which, I think, was a very stupid idea. I would like to move it into the garage where it should have been in the first place. I have an alcove in the rear (center) of the garage which is large enough for a water heater. The clothes washer is on the other side of the wall (sheet rock) of the alcove. Can the the water lines, currently supplying the clothes washer, be used as a input (cold water) and an output (hot water) for the water tank? 0 -

What I need replaced is the horizontal brass thing that holds the valves for the bathtub and shower.
The plumber said he could do it in 2 hours, 3 at the most and quoted a price (that included cutting an access panel which is no longer necessary as I took it apart).
I've been trying to search for that valve assembly on plumbing supply websites and I can't find it no matter what search term I use.
Who can tell me what that's called?0 -

If it is poorly cast, I'd replace the tank or install the flush valve with plumber's putty applied [thin "tube"] to the flush valve gasket. The putty has to be warm when you do this. [Cold putty will not squeeze out properly.
I once spent six hours getting an antique toilet to properly function [and not leak]. Same thing; ceramic outlet was cast oddly, and the flush spud wouldn't seat properly.0 -
There are three or four types of gaskets for the various makes of tanks and bases. Make sure you have the proper one. In 25 years of plumbing I never had need to go grinding on a tank flange. You will crack it or weaken it enough to crack later.There is a universal gasket that is slightly oversized and very thick & mushy. 0 -
