Unprofessional service local shop.
I recently had a gun shipped to my local shop as it is close and the guys are great.
However they had said the FFL was sent Sat but not received until I called the shop on Thurs when they resent? the FFL license. Then I had to call them to know if the gun had been received.
When I went to pick it up they boohooed it because it had been drilled and grumbled because I had not purchased the same model gun in their shop.
This kind of treatment will not be tolerated by me and all relations with this shop are finished. Period.
Has anyone else had similar experiences.

If I were the FFL and you bought a gun somewhere else you could have bought from me I would have told you to have it shipped to someone else. Especially if I had the same gun at my shop. 0 -
Before ordering it, did you ask if they had the same thing in stock? It's just courteous to do so.
Additionally, FFLs sometimes get lost in the mail... well, usually delayed. I have had it happen numerous times. Sometimes the seller isn't on the ball either and doesn't match up the FFL with your purchase...

It sounds like they will not be all that happy to see you coming back either....
If you made a bad purchase those are the guys that know. We've been shocked and amazed at what has come into the store via internet transfer. Rolling blocks, 218 bee Marlins, hundreds and hundreds of guns each year.....and some of them everyone in the store stops in AWE of the wonderful find. Other times you just know when the buyer is regretting what he is getting.
I've had it happen over and over again. A person gets a gun for well over what I would sell it for.....I let him know what my price would be and tell him to come back and see me.0 -

If they said they would do it for you, and charged you a fee to do it. they agreed to do a service for you, the above statement doesnt make sense. its already been established they would do it. and to harrass a customer in the process is unprofessional. Doesnt matter if they have it in stock or not. most dealers do it out of professional courtesy, to enhance future business. so why not be courteous as a professional. Customer service in many business's is becoming a past tense. They may have lost a comission on the original gun sales. But lost how much on ammo, cleaning,reloading, and who knows what else misc. supplies in the future. Some people stroke their own ego, only to shoot themselves in the foot0 -
Nope.
I get great service from my gun guy.
Having very low overhead, he can get very competative prices on anything I want to order. If I can get a better deal elsewhere and have it shipped to him, he's more than willing to do so.
Did I mention his store is half a block from my office?

Gun stores don't make overhead on supplies....ammo, cleaning kits, cases, not one "thing" will keep the doors open and pay the bills other than guns. People can get all the "stuff" anywhere....and I have come to realize that a cleaning kit....that I pay $7.oo for....and put on the shelf for $10.oo....I will STILL have some brainiac tell me...."cleaning kits are $8.50 at Academy."
How many ten dollar items do you buy from your local gun store? Not many things other than guns are purchased on a regular basis at the actual GUN stores. If everyone thinks the "stuff" is going to keep a gun store open they better get used to buying from the big chain stores like Academy, Bass pro or Cabellas....not one close by? What then?0 -
My FFL guy just asks for the first shot at a sale before I buy elsewhere and transfer. If he can't beat the price, then he is happy to go through with the transfer. Most of the time, he does beat the price. 0 -

Well , O.K. , We do 'transfers' all the time in our shop ... We charge a flat fee of $20.00 per firearm (plus the Tn $10.00 fee) , and we Do Not Care what the item is ( or if we have it in stock) , we offer transfers as a customer SERVICE , some shops have seemed to forgot the word/meaning of SERVICE !!!! its just ggod business , and by the way , if your local shop will not offer 'service' , then find another !!!

my shop don,t care, they charge 25.00 for transfer,and does 8 or 9 a day along with his other sales 0 -
the dealer i go to is a small town dealer. runs it out of his basement. good guy. if i'm buying a used gun he does the transfer for me. if i ever decide to get a new gun i will have him order it for me. but latly i seem to faver used guns. probley price. maybe because most new guns arnt made in the us 0 -
you can most likely make as much money if you offer to do transfers than you can at one sale of a gun, that is if you are are nice enough to do it, I have had people do transfers and not even ask if I can get the gun, I simply charge them $25.00 and say thank you, come again... 0 -

I've been on both sides of the counter. If I want a local dealer to handle a transfer for me, and he wants $100-$200 to be bothered with it, I never set foot in the place again. There's two storefront dealers a short distance from me and both are incredibly rude and arrogant. They hate being bothered by anything less than selling their $1000-up hunting rifles, so they drive off all us lesser mortals with our piddly nuisance business.
If a dealer agrees to do a transfer then they should STFU. Either do the deal without whining and browbeating the customer, or don't do the deal. Above all else, STFU. Second, STFU, Third, STFU.0 -
Some FFL holders are lazy and arrogant.
Some dealers (even though they legally be agents of the US Government) only have their FFL for their own convenience.0 -

Our local gun shop tries to be competitive with the larger stores(Cabelas, Sportsmens Warehouse etc) but we live in a smaller town. I would rather buy from him and help keep him in business than have to drive to another town. The way gas prices are it isn't cost effective. It's also nice to be able to run down there for "items I needed yesterday" to shoot today.
I have bought a few guns here on GB and he has no problems with receiving these...Seems to be good business for him.....if a gunshop told me "buy here or else" I would go somewhere else....Bull0 -
if the ones that are complaining about the ffl dealers dont like the way they do business ,then why dont you get your own license,then you will on the other side of the fence 0 -
My local shop was willing to let me use their FFL to receive an "online" purchase for $25. He checked his price on the same item and found that it would cost me $20 more the the out of state seller MINUS the $25 handling fee MINUS the shipping... so I saved $50 by buying locally. Sometimes it pays to check. 0 -
If the dealed wants to do the transfer DO IT don't bitch about not selling me the firearm. I pay the transfer fee and go hone happy. Dealer makes $20.00
If the dealer don't want to do a transfer for me without bitching about it I understand he/she don't want me in their gun shop.

The only guns I buy online are guns that I can't find at the local guys shop.
For example, his Remington 332, is not the same as a NIB Remington 3200 that you might find online.0 -

now that's just good business. if you don't want to perform transfers for poeple, don't offer it as a service. and certainly don't complain about that person's gun choice. chances are, if your gun prices are good, that person will end up buying your guns anyway.0
