    If one was doing a water service in galvanized, threaded pipe,
    you still had to create an expansion loop.
    Hard piping the loop was a big enough pita without extra fittings and pipe.
    The street elle allows one a relatively compact loop with less fittings.

    It also allows efficient change of direction, a very important aspect when
    piping in a ditch crowded with other utilities.

    When I kept a stocked bin, I always had a few in every size.

    because it does not have a hub, it goes directly in to a hub with out a adjoining piece of pipe.

    its not "L",its "ell". ell is code in the supply house for "elbow",which is what a 90 degree fitting is. i know what a street is, but i dont know why its called that.

    Don't know why it's called a street ell either. But I use 3/4" ones to route exhausts on Briggs engines.



    Plumbing reduced to basics.

    Water comes in.
    Water go's out.
    No leaks.
    Hitch up britches.
    Overbill!!!

    All plumbers know WHAT it is.
    But I don't have a clue as to why they are called street as opposed to spigot as so many other male type fittings are called[?]
