New Springfield Rifle

WOW< got to get out and shoot the M1A national match I bought about a month ago.

It was great, really nice group even with the iron sights and just laying in the back of the pickup resting it over a gun case.

Anyway, it is shooting about 12" high at 100 yards with the back site as low as it will go.

Since the front post would have to come up to correct this and the back won't go any lower, what is the fix?

PS. I did have the rear peep aperture with the numbers showing up, and I don't know if that is the high or low setting but that's only a half moa anyway so even if it was wrong it isn't going to fix the problem.

Anyway, other than that, shot it 20 times with some surplus south african ammo and it never failed, hardly kicks. Think I need to go out and get another one!

    jesnlsn....Easy fix is to take apart the rear sight and grind down the flat area at the bottom of the aperature where it hits the receiver(don't grind up to the gears). You need to grind it at an angle so that it marrys up flat to the receiver. Don't worry aperatures are relatively cheap. If you are only shooting at 100 yards I'd take off the NM aperature and put on a cheap SA standard aperature and do the fix. Before you do anything though you might want to see where it shoots at 200 yards...either with a Navy hold or with a 6 o'clock hold. I would think that with a 6 o'clock hold it will be shooting close to the X-Ring if you have been using a Navy hold up until now. You could also get a slightly taller front sight and replace what you've got; but that's a bigger pain in the butt.Beach

    I was using a 6 oclock hold on a pretty good size bullseye (small bore rifle target), so can't hold much lower.

    and I dont' think going from 100 yards out to 200 is gonna drop it a foot (or at least I sure hope it doesn't)

    was looking at how the aperture fit into the receiver cradle and it looks kind of rounded but will look again and see what it would take to remove some material.
