This pisses me off!!
I saw a commercial for a Tax Settlement company. Can't remember the name but that is not important. They had people "claiming" to have owed $100000 but settling for far less, like $5-$10 thousand.
WHY!
When I make my money I pay my taxes. It hurts, I am self-employed and pay large percentages and even have to pay the money before I make it in quarterly installments based on my earnings the year before.
So why should I bother to pay my taxes at all when the IRS will settle for much less. I should not pay or file and when they come looking for me, I will just settle for much less than I owe.
I think we all pay too much in taxes but if you and I are paying them why should someone else get off for much less?
My feelings are....If you owe it, pay it. I am paying my share and so should they.

I dont understand why they take taxes out of your check all year, and then you file, and find out you still owe them more! Maybe we should get a couple million million people not to pay taxes and get them to get it right. 0 -
sounds like advertising hype to me.....i would rather take my chances with God, i have seen what the Infernal Revenue Suckers can & will do to people...never seen a sale ad for their store....neighbor farmer got behind on farm till bank said sell it off...he sold land, cattle, machinery, auctioneer took his cut, bank took rest (not enough) & IRS wanted theirs...his wife went to work waiting tables, he got an hourly job & IRS was gracious enough to let him take home minimum wage for the rest of his life , garnishing the rest 0 -

i think we should all refuse to pay taxes until the government comes in line with the constitution. why should we support government that is against us. that being said , a tax equal across the board for rich or poor is the only fair way. no writeoffs for anyone[;)] 0 -
Have seen the ad for tax relief but don't believe it. In dealing
with the government, nothins is as easy as the ad suggests. Know
what I like about the IRS? You have to include your tax refund
as earned income or a gain and than they tax you on it. It's
your money. They just took to much out, used it at your expense,
then tax you again on it. What a deal.0 -
Cameroon- You need to find another tax preparer... a refund is not taxable in the next tax year. (That's a true refund - money paid in excess of what was owed.)
Ruger, I'm with you. I pay what I owe... I look hard at the tax code for exclusions, but inevitably pay what I legally owe.
A person who cheats on their tax is cheating me, as well as all other taxpayers. Many people profess their complete and total personal honesty, then brag about screwing the "government"... who they screwed is me and other taxpayers.
Likewise those who get over on entitlement programs... it seems to be OK to screw the (government) system - many are proud of doing it. What they really screwed is me, and every other taxpayer.0 -

The whole tax system needs a major overhaul.
I dont believe a word of those ads about settling. My uncle is a Merchant Marine and always had his taxes taken out. He decided not to file a return for about 4-5 years to get any back. His thinking was that they took it then they needed it.
Guess what? The IRS tracked him down, amd fined him $15K for failing to file returns. So they kept the original $8K he would have gotten in returns and made him pay the difference of the fine amount.
Now how stupid is that? He let the govt keep the extra and they fined him for it. Geez we are so screwed up in how we run things.0 -

I also think the IRS should be required to operate under the same Constitution other law enforcement organizations do. And I don't believe the "Fair Tax" will do away with the IRS. The IRS is here to stay.

Do you have any links showing they have the contract to secure the military installations? The company that has the responsibility in Texas is US Protect (based out of Maryland)0 -
My understanding of these types of operations is that they can manage to get some of the fines waived and help with negotiations.
An example is my hunting buddy. He got a divorce and was banned from the home. His ex quit paying the mortgage and let the house be foreclosed. After sherrif sale, the balance left on the note was over 15K. Instead of taking a judgment against him and ex (his name was still on the original loan), the company forgave the amount, causing the 15K to be considered income. His ex got the (Don't remember the exact form...W-4 maybe) form and ignored it. Now the IRS has charged him for the taxes owed, fines and penalties because he filed without claiming the income. One of these tax places has claimed that they can cut the bill down by over 50%. Can they? I hope so because he is in deep trouble.
That being said I don't believe all of their hype and also agree that I pay my taxes and so should you and even my buddy. I just don't agree with the fines in THESE situations.0 -
