Car Shopping Today
I went an looked at new Toyota Tacoma pick ups in 4x4. They only had one on the lot and it was a 4 door. $30,985.00. I wanted a two door. They also had the FJ 4x4 for $34,000. I didnt like it for that price.
Next I went to the Jeep dealer. I looked at the 4 door wranglers and the 2 door wrangler. 2 door in 4x4 was only $24,000 which i thought was a good price. A little small for my needs but there is something very cool about Jeeps. The 4 dr versions were cool but $30,000 for the hard top and $27,000 for the soft top. I thought they could have used the room in the back more efficiently but they cluttered it with crap and made it look even smaller.
Lastly I looked at Nissan Xterras and they only had one 4x4 there. Silver for $29,000.
I bought nothing. I couldnt decide. Nothing stood out and made me buy it.

Heck, if he's like me, re-sell doesn't matter. I buy a new one and drive it until it won't go anymore, then buy a new one. No sense not getting my money's worth, especially considering what they want for one today!!! 0 -

exactly. i like to beat the heck out of my trucks and drive them into the ground. when i buy a truck i dont think about resale, i just want something i like.0 -
Buy a used Toyota, two years old. Drive it for the next 15 years.
A 2006 Toyota Tacoma should run out to 500,000 miles or so.0 -

Yes, but the money you pay for the car/truck stays here in the U.S.
When you buy a Japanese car, the money goes to Japan, and only makes them stronger, then they come here and buy our land. Just doesn't seem right to me!0 -
The two biggest boosts for the U.S. economy are cars/trucks and house construction, always has been! We don't make anything else here anymore, and if people buy foreign cars, then we're in for a serious problem here in the U.S.
I've worked on cars for years, both foreign and American, and there's no difference! People have been brain washed that the foreign cars are better, they're not!
The people in the U.S. need to get their priorities straight, and think about what's important, boosting our economy, or somebody elses.
I work here, and i spend my money here! That's all there is to it. Sure, there are some things that you just can't buy that made here, but for everything else, i try to buy U.S.0 -
Do you guys know where those Toyota trucks are built? And by who's hands? And in what country their paycheck is spent improving who's local economy?

+1 Where I live there's a Toyota plant for engines across the river in Putnam co. WVA..families that live in my home town work there,,The engine in my truck was produced there..96% of my Tacoma [04] was manufactured in the USA..can you say that about your big three?..right, drive your new Ford and support Mexico..where they pay their workers 4.00 dollars a day to build them...Allen is right on this one...Loko0 -

Wippee for you! I agree that the gap might be closing, but if you compare the fit and finish of, say a Ford Focus to a Honda Accord, there is NO comparison! The Honda is much tighter, and better put together. The same thing is happening today that happened in the 70's (for those of us old enough to remember that far back!) Gas went up, American manufacturers weren't ready for it, and the imports were. They kicked our butt and have been ever since. Both our vehicles are supposedly American, but Jeep and Chrysler, at the time ours were made, were both owned by a German company. Does that make them foreign cars? Lot of Nissan's made outside of Nashville. Toyota's and Honda's are made here. Those paychecks go to American workers to spend in America. Bought a brand new Ford Ranger in 1987. Looked at all of them, Toyota, s-10, Nissan. Toyota and Nissan were by far better built, but I went with the Ranger because it was "American" made. Yeah, right. First time I changed oil in it, put it on the rack and low and behold, the motor and tranny were both Jap made!0 -

There was a study done about 10 to 15 years ago that i'd like to share some points with you.
When they started assembling Honda's in America, they said that it would provide 300,000 jobs for Americans directly and indirectly. Although, if the American people that bought those Honda's, instead of buying the Honda's, bought the equivelent amount of American cars it would provide 1.3 million jobs both directly and indirectly. That's a million more jobs, and that's only figuring the Honda's! What about all the other plants here, Nissan, Toyota, and so on!
We're talking millions of more jobs for U.S. citizens!
I'm a son of a WWII veteran, and maybe some of his values rubbed off on me, but i'm proud of those values!0 -

I agree with you.
We live in an "I" society now. Everyone feels they have the right to do what they feel is best for them personally. And, yes they have that right because of our soldiers and veterans.
Personally, I buy American Cars. I do not like imported cars at all.
Even the high end ones, they just don't do it for me.0 -

Me too, All of my cars are American, like my Chevy Venture that was made in Canada, and my Chevy Camaro that was also made in Canada, and don't forget about my great American Ford escort that was made in Mexico. I might buy American and be very proud of it but my FIL's Toyota Tundra is less of an import than my so called American cars. It was Designed in America and built in America by Americans. My cars? Well at least they were sold by Americans.0 -
The big three let the Japs in back in the 70's. For years they thought that they didn't have to build their cars as good as Honda and Toyota. They underestimated their customers devotion. Now, finally, they are trying to catch up in quality and safety and regain some market share. When they can build a car that compares to the imports I will gladly buy domestic again. Until then, I refuse to shell out $2,500 for a new transmission at 150,000 miles needlessly. It's not my responsibility to shoulder the burden of the big three's ineptitude and greed. 0 -

I'm the grandson of a WW2 veteran. Served on Tinian. Back in 1960 he bought a new Datsun, and never bought any other brand of car or truck until he died. If he could forgive them, I have no problem with it. This jingoistic bull crap is really old. It was 60 freaking years ago. If you are going to be that way toward Japan, better check your closet and food pantry because I guanantee that you have lots of things in them manufactured in Vietnam.0 -

go with the Tacoma. I have a '96 4wd x-cab / 5 speed / 3RZ (4 cyl). 190,000 and still going strong. Best truck i've ever owned. 0 -
