My answer is like many others,......IF they pass exactly the same requirements that a male has to, I have no issue other than the fact in some circumstances a drunk or drugged young male, is not going to be taken "down" by a 5'2" female. They will resist where they would not if it was a 6' or larger male.
I went through this garbage in the FD, in my younger years,......different standards for females. Why would I want a "partner" that did not have to pass the same physical agility testing that I did?

I know a few local cops and I have asked them about their experiences with female cops. Two have said "they are weak and therefore put lives at risk" they have also said "female cops cant chase suspects on foot because they are slow" other cops have said "they are exactly the same as men". 0 -
All too often on the show cops, you see female officers get into a situation, instead of taking control, they call for backup (men) and wait it out.
Also, they have long hair, and roll it up into a huge bun (easy for a perp to grab hold of). I've never seen a male with long hair be a cop.
Point being, there is no equality in reality.
If you could have a female partner, or a male partner, of course you'd pick the chick, because you can flirt during your shift ... and don't try and tell me it doesn't happen. Guys treat females different than other guys, fact.
Seems as though everytime you hear of a cop getting a gun taken away from them, its a skirt. Call me a caveman, whatever, but I think the women should still be answering the phone, and leave the heavy work for the guys.
Equality is fine, until you're dead, then maybe you'd wish you had a desk job that was a little more easy to handle.

Yes that happened in Atlanta. A 32 year old weighlifter inmate was being guarded by an armed, 5-3 grandmother who was 53 years old. They all said she was the nicest lady.
The bad guy shot and killed the judge, court reporter, a deputy and a customs officer with that granny deputie's gun.0 -

I have been in EMS since 1987. I have much exposure to law enforcement in my job, and have come in contact with female officers I would not want to be apprehended by. All capable in my mind as far as training goes. With few exceptions, I wouldn't have a problem with any female. That also goes with female partners in my job. Yes, there are a few 61-62 inch 100 pound females in public safety, and the size may make a difference in a one on one scuffle. But I have also seen these "petite ladies" take someone to the ground twice their size with baton work. Its all in the awareness, training, and common skills that all law enforcement officers receive (in most areas). 0 -

That might offend some of smaller stature. How big is Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee or light and middle weight ultimate fighters and so forth. I am 74" and weigh 255 pounds, but in a scuffle, a faster and properly trained 180 pound person could probably take me to the ground and subdue and cuff my big butt. As far as using force when not necessary, all police are trained and upheld to the standard of the "use of force module" when confronting people. It is a requirement to justify any force used. I don't think that statement holds much water as far as comparing it against a properly trained officer who uses the module as required.0 -
My daughter is a Captain on the Topeka, Ks. fire department. She is 5' 11" and built strong. She passed all the agility and strength tests, including pulling hose over the training tower in full turn out gear. There were some guys that didn't make the physical tests. I know that I am prejudiced, but I feel she has and can do the job as well as anyone. I have had input from some of her co firefighters and they have told me she can handle the work and the turkeys as well. However, she has only been on the job for just over 20 year, so we'll have to see how she does in the next 20. In addition to her job she also married and raising three good children. I read some of the comments on here and realize that misogyny is alive and well. 0 -

All seriousness aside, my stomach has that same bad feeling no mater which gender is walking up to my drivers window when I have pulled over, turned on my flashers and put both hands on the wheel!
But as I told my wife while seeing those little blonds walking through Z?rich Airport carrying machine guns, "I can't think of anything that I wouldn't do for a pretty girl carrying and automatic weapon."0
