    hmmm.....me too. But YOU brought it up. I'm going to have to go find something hard and clangy to listen to....like Rachmaninov.[:D]....or Metallica. We'll see.

    [V]yeah! the greenies carry on about it here too![:(!]imagine back in ww2 what would have happened if people complained about the effects on whales when depth charges were being dropped on subs!..if sensible people didnt lynch them im sure the govenments would have been happy to have some new recruits!damned greens! they need the muck kicked out of them!![:(!]

    I was listening to a Navy sonar expert interviewed on this subject. He was asked how long it takes to train someone to be truly excellent with sonar. He replied that the use of sonar technology is an art and not a trained skill. He said that it can take 15 - 20 years of experience to become truly excellent with it. This crap interferes with the training of our younger generation. We'll be screwed tomorrow if we need it.

    It's a slippery slope like any other.

    Today the marine mammals don't matter. Tomorrow it's the coastal invertebrates. The next day it's the nocturnal insectivorous bats. Then the migratory shorebirds. Then......one day you're outside wondering why it just seems so boring? Well, maybe that's because all the interesting wildlife is dead.

    You can apply the same argument to firearms.

    Let them take the full-auto guns, because nobody really needs those for sporting purposes. Then they'll need the "assault weapons" (whatever those might be). After that it only makes sense that any semi-auto is unnecessary. Handguns will cease to be acceptable. Hey Fudd: you're next, especially since there's no longer any damn wildlife left to shoot!

    Most Navy sonar operates on passive, or listening, mode 95% of the time. Some Navy sonar is incapable of operating on active, or pinging, mode, i.e. Missile boats.

    This is actually complicated. Clearly, strong sonar emissions will severly harm wildlife. We are probably needing stronger sonar for the reasons below:

    The W Germans have been selling diesel subs which are so quiet the Navy has trouble tracking them. Commie Spies ( Walker ) gave away our secret for a noisless propeller. The Diesel subs make their own oxygen with reverse osmosis/electrolisis. The Islamic nations are using them.

    The enemy nations will patrol in any whale protected off limits zone.

    But whales migrate along the Pacific coastal waters.

    For the youngsters here: The German U-Boats sank hundreds of US Merchant ships along the Eastern SeaBoard. Ruskies lurked offshore with missle subs, and with Putty-Put making not-so friendly like Bush thought ( I see into his heart! ), no doubt they are back again.

    We have a home near Whidbey Island Navy base where the sub chasers are located, and know people doing the job. I have also been a big yacht owner and have seen whales flip their tail just 15 feet off the starboard side, and I've been close enough to gray's feeding at the beach to smell their breath.
