anyone have pics of 222 rem mag **updated**
i need a pic of the 222 rem mag compared to 220 swift. or just someone to tell me difference in case size. trying to figure out what my gun is chamberen in. going to get a chamber casting kit and need to know some of the case sizes. was told gun is 22-250 but thats not it. only goes in about 3/4 the way. tried a 220 swift and it goes almost all the way in but binds with 1/8 of the case left and wouldnt extract but the 22-250 would extract. would also like casing sizes for 224 Weatherby or any other casing sizes you think it might be.

Specs but no pic at wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.222_Remington_Magnum
The See also: List of rifle cartridges will take you to good references on the rest. I know there are plenty of industry/shooting world sites out there, this is just easy to navigate and the info is easy to see.0 -
spec are ok. only reason i wanted a pic was to judge size compared to something else. just trying to elimenate as much as possible before i get casting done. 0 -
the 204 ruger is a 222 rem mag case necked down.[;)]
see if the bore might be a 5mmor .20 cal if so it may be a 204 ruger0 -
hk.. also if you oil th chamber real good and plug the rifleing with a cotton ball soaked in oil, you can melt a candle and pour into the chamber, let it cool and push it out from the muzzle, presto instant mould[;)] 0 -
It would help to know what rifle it is that you are trying to find out the cal. It could be a .225 0 -

Plus one on it being a 225 win. It sounds smaller then a 220 swift and the 225 is smaller than the 220 swift and you can actully shoot a 225 in a 220 swift (don't do it the side wall may break)
I think a 222 rem mag is close in size to a 221 fireball and 223. I think the 222 mag is just a bit taller.
Another one you might look into is the 257 roberts it's bigger then the swift and most likely not it. But just throwing it out there.
Maybe 22PPC or 22BR?0 -
if the 22-250 and 220swift don't go all the way in,..then that means it is either smaller in dia or shorter than either of those. That should start to narrow it down. Try chambering a 223,..if it chambers it very well may be a 222rem mag or could even be the 223.
Start by doing this,.....take a set of mics and let us know the boltface dia. (this means inside the rim of the boltface,..not the outside dia.)0 -
Caution!! .222 Rem. Mag and .223 Rem are almost identical. Please don't assume the chambering of either of the two cartridges. Cast it!! Joe 0 -
This thread has piqued my interest in seeing how this turns out. One question comes to mind, will casting the chamber provide one and only one possibility? Maybe a dumb question but a question the same. 0 -

Isn't the 221 fireball close to these also?
I think if it will chamber the 223 it will not chamber the 222 rem mag, but it will chamber the 221 fireball and 222. But if it's 222 rem mag will chamber the 223, but not verse vera, it will also chamber the 221 fireball, and 222.
If it's a 220 swift it will chamber the 225 win also.
If the 22-250 fits so will the 22 PPC.
If it's a 257 Roberts the 220 swift and 22-250 will also chamber.
I would check into 225 win, 250 sav or 221 fireball.0 -
BTW if it is a 222 rem mag and you chamber and fire a 223 or 221 fireball though it expect a head space rapture. 0 -
Is it for a rimmed case? 0 -
hk-91,
It's not a big picture but it shows the relative sizes of the cartridges you're interested in:
Left to right: .218 Bee, .222 Remington, .222 Remington Magnum, .225 Winchester, .220 Swift
I suggest that you look at Steves Pages to get the proper drawings of the cartridges you need to compare. You need to do a chamber casting since this other stuff of trying cases in the chamber won't tell you what it really is. Cast it, measure it and know for sure what you have.

dont know, i know it will extract the 22-250 round but not the 220 swift just wont chamber them. as for someones elses question. it leaves a ring around the 22-250 case and about 3/4 of the way in. and leave a ring on the 220 swift case about 1/8 inch from the end. so i think the problem is with the case being to wide and not the chamber being to short. and just incase anyone wondering. i'm going to get a chamber casting done. always planned on it. just trying to figure out what it is before hand. its bothering me. but i would never just shoot a round from a unmarked chamber with out getting it casted. i value my guns and life to much. 0 -
Will it chamber a 223? It it will, I think that would narrow it down to a 223 or 222 rem mag. 0 -
it wont extract the 223. 0 -
Just to throw out some numbers
Cartridge Shoulder Base length
22-250 .417 .467 2.360
224 .395 .415 2.312
225 .406 .422 2.5
222 Rem Mag .358 .375 2.280
222 rem .358 .375 2.130
223 .253 .376 2.260
From my Sierra Bullets Secound Edition.
Sorry but it will not let me keep them in line.0 -
i just hope this isnt some custom cal that i will have to have dies made for. i wanted to get into reloading just not this way. 0 -
Is this of any value??

marner check out a 204 ruger 0 -
If it extracts the 22-250 and .220 Swift, but not the .223, it leads me to believe that the bolt face is designed for cartridges that are larger than the .223 sized cases (.378"). It also makes me think that it may be for rimmed cartridges. These would be the .225, the .219 Zipper or the .219 Donaldson Wasp. 0 -
found a place that will help me out has load data and case sizes for most every cal

can you remove the bolt and look in to the chamber? I you can see the rear portion of the chamber if it looks like it is cut for a belted case.if it is you have a .224 Weatherby 0 -
Any chance that the upper part of a old casing is left in the chamber and it is 22-250? 0 -
I think this is the second time you have posted this thread, both time your were told how to do a inexpensive casting using wax, once by me now by Tomahawk. quit screwing around and cast the thing already will you. it will take you 10 min to cast another 10min to measure. You can't solve anything by guessing at it, you know you have a unknown caliber, cast the bullet and get your answer. whats the matter you dont have wax? 0 -
no i dont have wax. i had to order the casting matterial. so i'm just trying to narrow it down until i get the stuff in the mail.
