From the Virginia Citizen's Defense League website, concerning the debate over Virginia's so-called "Gun show loophole". Posted by Mr. Van Cleve of the VCDL:

"On Monday, Executive member John Pierce was in an elevator in the
General Assembly building, participating in the VCDL Lobby Day. John
was in the back of the elevator and at some point Democratic Senator
Dick Saslaw of Fairfax County, who is the Senate Majority Leader,
entered the elevator with a companion.

The Senator, not realizing that John with his large "Guns Save Lives"
badge was in the back of the elevator, continued a loud conversation
he was having with his companion.

In a clearly audible voice, Senator Saslaw said to his companion: "I
see we're debating a gun bill today. Half of the cast of Deliverance
is in town."

    Not exactly surprising. This "I'm smarter and more civilized than you and thus better able to decide what is in your best interest" mentality is prevalent on both sides of the isle.

    yes, it doesnt seem to take long for politicians everywhere to forget that they are the servants of the people..elected to uphold the laws as laid down in a countries constitution and never ever pass a law that infringes a countries constitution in any way shape or form...they seem to forget that they are elected to do as their constituents want them to do, not what they want to do...that is why they stand on certain issues, so the voters can decide whether to vote for them or not.
