Philadelphia Parking "Authority"

Anyone see the new series on A&E called "Parking Wars"? I lived in Philadelphia for 44 years and watching this program makes me so happy that I am no longer there! I dealt with the Parking Authority on a daily basis and I have to tell you, they are an arrogant, bullying, rude bunch of people! Not all of them, but many of them are! The impound lot people have to work behind bullet proof plexi glass because they are so good at pissing customers off! I would like to see an irate customer who had his car towed for no reason, show up there with a RPG and take out the whole place! [}:)]

    I too lived in Philly for years and years. I had a friend when I was in school who perhaps pulled one of the best stunts with the Parking Authority ever.

    She bought a second hand car but did not have any money for the insurance so she took a plate off an abandoned car sitting in a vacant lot down the street.

    About a month later it gets towed for unpaid parking violations. I drove her down to the traffic court where she went in and pretended to be the person whom the plates belonged to and paid all their fines (No ID asked for) Once that was done she takes the receipt to the impound lot. There of course the vehicle listed on the receipt and hers with the plates are completely different. The lot attendant just shrugs and gives her the car back. No questions asked.

    i live just outside of Philly and i refuse to drive into the city. i always take the train down to market east.
    it is a nightmare trying to find parking on the weekend. i once paid for parking at the river ferry stop by pens landing and sat for 45 min cause there were no spots and they wouldn't give my money back.


    but on the same not i have gone to Philly for wither south street fun or the museums on the other side of town and had no problem parking.


    i am not 100% but i bet these problems happen in other cities too

    that show is classic. i have always wondered for years why peopel get SO mad at parking cops. personally i have always been opposed to the idea of the government making people pay to park on public land and then also make them pay taxes for that public land.

    yeah...parking fees are just theft by government! you pay all the fees to get a car on the road then they charge you to park it on public land! it stinks...and when the revolution happens parking meter attendants will hopefully be on the other side![:(!]

    When I used to live in Atlanta the big problem was not towing, but getting your car booted.
    The city had several subcontractor booting companies working. These guys got the lion's share of the fines for every time they put the boot on.
    These guys were really rogues and would boot a car undeservedly, there were an awful lot of complaints about their tactics.

    I will chime in once more. Another scam that was running when I was living downtown was that about 1 in 10 cars picked up on a hook was taken to a chop shop instead of the impound lot. If you went down to Deleware Ave and your vehicle was on the list, up on the hook you went and the guy towing you could even count on police help stopping traffic while he did it to you.
