Optics on AR15 A2
As most of you know, I'm in the market for an AR, but not sure which one I want yet as far as either an A2 or A3. I know the differences, but still am undecided.
I don't necessarily plan on putting any optics on it in the near future, but that doesn't mean I won't.
If/when I do, it'll be an EoTech, that I've already decided. My question is, how sturdy in that carry handle mount that you can pick up for the A2? And which would you recommend given my circumstances?

I've got several AR's, and the only one I actually liked the optics on was the flat top. So, now I have an EOTech 552 on my M-4 style, and use iron sights on the others.
Get the one lower, and a couple of other uppers, and you are set for all occasions !0 -

I'm about to build an AR myself.
I'm going to make mine either standard A2 and never put optics on it, or get an A3 upper, plus the removable carry handle, with folding front sight so that I can put optics on it.
I wouldn't put an Eotech on the A2 carry handle. The big reason for that is that it will be way too high over the regular sights. You won't get a normal cheek/stock weld, and will have problems with consistency.0 -

That is exactly what it does[;)]
When the rifles rear and front sights are lined up the EOtech will be right inline and on the front sight, but still floats and remains on target also.
If the EOtech gets busted the iron sights are always there.0 -

The only scope i use, made by Colt, 4x20, just right for the AR, has built in Drop Comp.
This is the ARMS collapsable rear sight in closed position. When you pop it up you can co-witness with the EO TECH on a flat top. I like this config because I am able to mount the EOTech further rearward on the gun, weight distribution and use are better mounted further back IMHO.

MVP...what kind of mount does that use, and does the carry handle obstruct the sight in any way whatsoever??? I have an A3 that I would like to eventually put an EOTech on, but I really don't want to remove the carry handle...but I do not want the field of view obstructed.???0 -
If they are mounted co-witness then the bottom half of the Eotech would have to be almost completely obscurred, unless I'm missing something. 0 -

That set up is perfect, IMO. If for some crazy reason your eotech goes out you don't have to raise or lower your head to go to the BUIS which would obviously waste precious time if in fact you really had to use it.0 -

It does not obstruct the view at all.
I've got about 4 of these that are slightly used. I can post them on the auction side if anyone is interested, maybe $15 a piece?0 -

The controls are obscurred from view while in line with the sights, but they are reachable to make adjustments. I don't think that's an issue because I can't see making adjustments to brightness while in a combat situation.0 -
I use an A.R.M.S mount on my Colt 6601 H-bar..w/the delta scope..3x9-40 rubber armoured..[tasco made] very clear though and holds zero,..Loko

There are a couple dead spots with the EOtech mounted this way.
Since the EOtech is not magnified the front sight of course creates a dead spot... The same dead spot as if you are only useing the open sight alone.
With the EOTech mounted this way you can actually sight down either side of the carry handle, Not that anyone would, but it is still capable.
The whole holographic reticle is perfectly visable above the iron sights which is the upper 2/3 of the eotech glass.
If you want 100% unobstructed sight picture with your EOTech you would need to have fold down rear and front sight.
I like the system that uses the carry handle because it really is not anymore obstructed than the iron sights are without the EOtech and the BUIS is stout enough to handle abuse and punishment.
An A1 rear sight is even better set up this way.0 -

I have the flip sites/Acog mount. I can still can use the flip sites, but a lot of the site picture is blocked. A flip front sight is in the future, But if you use both eyes the site picture becomes clear. I've not had this set up for very long and still deciding if I like it or not. I'm thinking I may go with a holo or just plain open sites. 0 -
