I have a 1891 Argentine Mauser and was thinking about putting a scope on it.
How hard is it to have it drilled and tap and do you think its worth doing so.

    I hate to see the old original Military rifles with drilled and tapped receivers and scoped.
    I believe in a day long ago when there were not many options people did this sort of thing .
    Now that there are so many options for a scoped rifle that to forever adulterate an historical rifle, I wouldn't do this type of thing.
    It is on par with taking an old 1967 cameo and cutting the rear fender wells larger so you can put racing slicks on it.
    Thats my opinion anyway.

    Mvp in a way I agree with you but this rifle has done had its changes ie its been sporterized with a cut down stock curved bolt handle and has had a wilson peep site installed on it all down before I got it for a mere 150.00 all in all its a great looking and shooting rifle but snice its down been changed I thought why not add a scope.

    That old metal be hard. Hard to drill. Easy to brake a tap in it. By the time your done you could have a couple of large holes that are good for nothing. Not trying to stop you just warning you like I wished someone would of warned me. Not that mine ended out with worthless holes. I managed to get the tap out a few days later and did manage to scope it.

    Go with a B Square no drill & tap mount. The Mausers are an iffy thing when drilling and tapping. One may be soft as butter and the next you will need a carbide drill on and then be unable to tap it its so hard.

    Why ruin a nice military rifle when you can buy somthing else already drilled?
