Anyone take Vitamins
What kind and why? I can't seem to get that energetic feeling back. Used to wake up and go get life. Now I have to work at getting going and really fade at the end of the day. I have tried a few varieties and am interested in opinions. Thanks, Rusty

Try Perfusia and Al's Formula from Thorne Research. Best on the market for what you describe.0 -
I eat them like candy. Centrum Silver Men's formula. I take twice the normal dose per my doctors advice. 0 -

Thats an idea.....may try that in the morning0 -
I use a lot of vitamin C (Caffeine) 0 -
One multi-vitamin per day, because most doctors say it's a good thing to take.
I also take one 400iu vitamin E, because an old doctor that my dad knew said that taking Vit E is the best prevention that you can take to prevent heart disease and cancer. The brand of Vitamin E is very important( I use A.C. Grace Unique E)they say the inexpensive versions from Walgreen's, or Wal-Mart aren't any good.
Also one Chromium Picolinate, that helps your body absorb the insulin that it produces, it's good if you have diabetes in your family, both my parents were, and i don't want it! It's also good for borderline diabetics who don't want to take prescription drugs.0 -

But not a good idea. Do you know what is in most commerical vitamins? I don't mean the ingredients; I mean the stuff they use to bind those ingredients to make tablets and capsules. Centrum is crap. Save your money.0 -

DWS,
Enlighten me. These are what the doc told me to take, so like a blind bat I follow his advice. What is bad about them? I would take what ever is the best, but he says I need an extra dose because the kidneys aren't working at 100% due to the diabetis.
Thanks0 -

Danny,
It's not the recommendation that's bad; it's the delivery. All the big vitamin companies use fillers and binders in their blending and encapsulation processes. They do this because it is cheaper to produce the vitamin. But these binders and fillers are not used nor easily passed by the human body, and with some takers, especially the elderly, these addidtives collect as residue in the lining of the stomach and other organs. Companies like Thorne don't use fillers or anything else the human body cannot directly use, including the capsule material itself. I used to take Centrum myself until my doctor here in Sandpoint advised I take another brand.0 -
Thanks, I didn't know that. I'll look at Thorens products.
My luck I've probably been making things worse instead of better. He didn't recommend Centrum, he just said take a double dose of a men's formula daily vitamin, and the pharmacy recommended Centrum.
Learn something new every day.0 -
Can't take them everyday, or I get nose bleeds.
Too much of (?) something.
About twice a week works OK.
I don't feel like they "energize" me, maybe I should be talking to the bunny. [:o)]0 -
DWS...I've been looking at employment possibilities at Thorne...
I take Multigreens and swear by them...I would bet that they've bought me additional time on this side of eternity.0 -
I like GNC's megaman formula. Good mix and ratio of the all the vital ones. Try a good multimineral too. 0 -
I think they are a load of crap, personally. I've taken several different types of vitamins, I felt ZERO difference. Same thing with this glucosamine stuff.......no difference at all.
Merc (maybe my liver is just too big and filters it all out???????)0 -

+1 Plus I take the subligual vitamin B-12 at 3x the normal dose.0 -
I take a multivitamin everyday. I don't eat regularly and sure don't eat healhty when I do. I also take Saw Palmetto. 0 -
I take Centrum One a Day's an occasional Vitamin C pills.. dont over do it though because too much doesnt help you according to Men's HEalth magazine.. 0 -
Why take vitamins when you can take a food supplement made from real food. My wife took some of this stuff to up her metabolism and lost 60+ pounds. She now swears by it. I am able to sell it but, I did that so I could get it wholesale.

rusty, you could be having thyroid problems. In your initial post you describe some of the hypothyroid symptoms to a T.
I know about it because I have it.
Do you feel cold when the room is not cold?
Is your skin getting dry?0 -

Interesting question. I do have dry skin but mostly my hands which I abuse. No issues with cold. Just had a complete physical no new issues there but will ask Dr if they test for that? thanks0 -
I take fiber pills and multivitamins. Ever since starting the fiber my...shall we say, derrier protrubrances.... have been far less noticeable. Here I thought I needed surgery- no just a healthier diet, more fiber=less effort=less problems. 0 -
Well feeling cold when you ought not to is one of the main hypothyroid symptoms. There is a blood test for hypothyroid but it is not very accurate.
Another problem you might have is adrenal insufficiency. Google it up and check out the symptoms. I have that one, too, believe me it will take the wind from your sails.
If your problem is vitamin insufficiency, if you start to take good vitamins you will tell the difference in a day or two.0 -
Try Focus Factor. You won't be disappointed.
Very noticeable difference.0 -
Vitamin D is said to be one of the most important, and most should take 1000 mg/day.
Glucosamine/Chondrotin does work for me, I have gone on and off to test it. Not pain free, but much less pain. It takes 3 to 4 weeks to feel the difference going on or off. Also take multivitimin, fish oil, C, D, E.0 -
I can't seem to get that energetic feeling back
I kind of lost my Can-Do attitude at 39~43 years old. My knees were always tired,
my body was screaming to slow down. Funny, I was the guy who would walk into any job,
silence the nay-sayers, and make the impossible happen.
Now I hire people to do the work I used to bang out.
When I find the drive, I plan on getting a full blood make-up;
maybe the doc has some ideas and solutions.
Glucosamine/Chondrotin works not for me, also.
My wife puts out a cup of pills every morning. She's dosing me as she does the cat.
I'm sure it is the healthy, alternative stuff. It turns my pee bright yellow.0 -
That is just the excess vit. C excreted by the kidneys. Doses of C above 500 mg are contraindicated, they do not have the antioxident effect doses at or below 500mg have. C is useless for preventing colds. 0 -
The wife gets vitamins from her chiropractor, not the store shelf. Less junk, although a bit more pricey. Every once in a while I take one, and will attest that they do clean the carbon out of the old carburator. We also take a liquid supplement that is I think categorized more as a food than vitamins. But they both fight that sluggish feeling that seems to come with age. 0 -
i take a flinstones chewable every day 0 -
