new here looking for any help / info.

ive been a viewer for quite a bit here and never thought i would end up with what i got...

a buddy of mine asked me to store some items in my guest house about 4-1/2 yrs ago for a few months. now i have a mother in law coming and i dont want her in my house, she can stay out in the guest house ;-)
since then i have not been able to find him, tele no work, moved, etc... anyhoo
I got the police to come and give me a police report for abandoned items. so i went looking into the boxes, approx 70. what i found i dont know what to do with. here is a breakdown of some of the items
13 ponsness warren reloaders, 3 c h tool and die reloaders, 25 boxes of wads, in ea box is about 20 bags, winchester AA wads, etc... skeet? thrower parts, gun cleaning everything, maybe the thrower is in there, i have about 40 more boxes to go through. but everything from brass, to stocks.
I am kind of overwhelmed with the amount of items to get rid of. I thought about putting the items on gun broker, but i dont know what most of this stuff is. I know my guns but i buy my shells ;-) please dont think i am trying to unload the stuff by this post, i just dont know what i have and i dont know anyone who does. so i am just looking for anyone who may be able to help me. thank you for reading this ...

    Try your local newspaper...that kind of stuff will go quick. Or maybe a local firearm dealer will be interested in some kind of trade or credit. Good Luck.

    Sell it on the GB auction site.

    Start bidding at a dollar and let the free market decide. It is easy to list and you may profit handsomely from the small amount of effort it takes to list it all. With flat rate boxes available from the USPS shipping can be quite reasonable.

    If you list the items and post a heads up and a link to the items on the general discussion forum you will generate a lot of interest in the auctions.

    thank you for the info. I am going to setup a seller acct on gun broker and start with the small stuff.

    but on these stocks, how could i sell them, i have no clue what kind of gun they are for.. thats my problem with most of the stuff, lots of ruger items. once again thank you for the info, hope to be a good member here ;-)

    these reloaders are heavy heavy.. wow the shipping costs.

    Since the stuff you have all ready gotten into has been firearms related. Most likely thats whats in the other boxes also. I would be going through everything, before taking it down to a local sporting goods store or putting a add in the paper. No telling what the other boxes contain? It might be big buck stuff, you don't be wanting to give away for chump change. Or it might be some illegal stuff, that could land your butt in jail if the JBT's found out about it.

    My 2?. Do a comprehensive photo inventory of all the stuff, before letting everybody and their brother inlaw into your place to nickel & dime the stuff.

    The police ran the serial #`s on the loaders and told me they are clear, and as far as the rest of the stuff, i have to make a list and take it to them before i sell anything, to cover my butt. But they have the stuff considered abandoned. The only problem i could have is the owner take me to small claims court, but how can he after almost 5years. its not my job to chase him down.

    thank you for the heads up. most likely i will sell 99% of the items on GB.

    Suggestions:
    1) Find out what FLA abandoned property law says.

    2) Put $ in trust account, charge the guy storage time.

    3) Go to local gun club(s) and ask for 3 senior gun-lovin
    members to come and open stuff and take notes for you.

    4) Offer to pay them for their time, but most would do it for
    free.

    5) Put some in a storage site to make room for you to inventory
    what you have.

    6) You may now be subject to the unclaimed property law...read:

    7) Since you were doing storage for somebody, go see the owner of 2 or 3 different storage businesses and hear what they do.

    8) Be sure you have documented proof of your attempts to contact the person.

    9) Don't be confused by the FLA intangibles law, or abandoned prop as it applies to public property. You may be in a strong position.

    i would suggest taking everything to a knowledgable local gun smith. he will probably be able to tell you what all parts go to with just a glance. also, they always need parts and most of them reload alot. if not them, thier buddies. hope this helps, redman

    should you decide to do it yourself here on GB. take a closeup picture of the different lots and most of these guys will ID what you have. I personally would not take something to someone I didnt know, especailly if it might have high value.

    Thanks for the info. I have been going through boxes for the past few hours, wow... This guy must have had a gun shop or something. i feel like its christmas opening presents.. no idea what i am going to find.. I am just kind of shocked someone would walk away from this stuff. thank you all for taking the time to help me. I am going to take pics tomm. and start posting.

    thats cool, i will take some pics of them, the barrels say what they are but stocks have nothing in writing on them.

    Let me help get you started. What you would do is start a post titled "Giveaway" Then you would go on to mention that you, being the one millionth poster on GB would be honored to have a give away for all the things that you have in those boxes. You would set some rules for the giveaway, for example... "give away is open to all members who's screen name starts with S and ends in 99". Then you would draw the name from a hat. At that point you would contact me I mean the winner, and tell them the good news that they won all the stuff in the boxes. It's really alot of fun. [:D]

    Rufe NAILED it. U'll do better posting photo's here, getting feed-back on it, and selling what you can locally.

    Oh yeah. welcome to the forum, WE LOVE PHOTO'S!!! Send a picture of each box, and they will be scrutinized by the rank n file. You'll find no better place to get advice on what you have.HONEST INFO, i might add.

    take a picture of every item you have. make a thread calling it "world famous leedsweb mystery thing, pic#" be sure to make a new threaqd for every item. the guys here will tel you what it is. you can do this almost daily for over a year with little or no reprecussions. the record is 181 seperate threads seeking identification of mystery items.

    I hope if my friend is in a coma and wakes up he would understand. I would expect if it was my stuff and 5yrs later i wanted it.. hmm it would be gone.. but the issue to me is, 3yrs ago i told him and his wife one day to come and get it because i needed it out, friend said sure, and came by my house with a trailer w/wife.. they looked through boxes and took one x-mas wreath and have not heard from them since.. i have left message after massage prob, 20 in the past 2-3 yrs, not a reply. no call back, i didnt want $$ and they knew that, i just wanted it out.. what else can i do, i hate getting rid of the stuff but man how long is long enough? thank you all for the help.. i will be getting it together over the next few days.
