Perhaps a minimal understanding of evolution would keep you from demonstrating the oxymoronic nature of the intelligent design hypothesis.

Don, are you trying to tell me it takes greater intelligence to believe in evolution than creation?? I truly believe it takes MUCH more "faith" to accept evolution in the true Darwinian mode.

I do believe that evolution is taking place, but only WITHIN the species line. There is NOT ONE concrete piece of evidence of the crossover in any species, linking that true form of evolution.

Now if we both have to go on faith to believe one or the other, true big bang evolution or master creation, which one has a greater body of evidence and contrary evidence and which one makes more sense to accept. If I'm wrong, I've missed a very pretty days of golfing and fishing to be with some very nice folks; if you're wrong, you're gonna miss a whole lot more for a awfully long time.......

If anything is oxymoronic, it is evolution. There is no proof, just opinions.

    lindalecowboy:

I personally do not believe that accepting evolution as opposed to intelligent design reflects anything about a person's intelligence. People much more intelligent than I accept both of them.

I was merely pointing out that the analogy pointed to by prangle was not intelligent, as it ignores the process of evolution entirely, thus pointing to a minimal understanding of the subject matter he wishes to discredit.

You appear to be predisposed to thinking in terms of faith. I accept that there are evolutionary reasons for that thinking to be a part of the human psyche, and also accept and respect people with that predisposition.

FWIW, it takes no faith for me to accept evolution. It merely takes the ability to accept the fact that I do not yet know everything.[:)]

Opinions? Yes, Scientific opinions. Science evolves. If proven incorrect it adjusts and moves forth. Religeon (sp?) does NOT! I care not how or if god created things. The "Big Bang" might have happened when god FARTED! To me the process of evolution is obvious!

Don, thanks for the kind reply, and please let me also acknowledge that I certainly do NOT know everything, in fact, at 56 years of age, I feel I am learning more now than ever in my life to this point.

I do feel it does take a level of "faith" to believe in evolution, although as I pointed out, I too believe there is some evolution taking place everyday. I just don't happen to believe or accept that everything came from some mysterious beginning and then evolved into what we see before us today, a miraculous earth, filled with living beings that are nothing short of wonders themselves and it all had to come from somewhere.

I appreciate your kindness in your words to truly "discuss" and debate our differences, rather than suddenly hating on me because we disagree. I love to discuss and debate, especially in person, with those with whom I disagree. I just don't enter into those hate filled, name calling, series of slanders, merely because you don't agree with me about anything. If I ever hope to persuade someone to buy my type of gun or smartphone, much less my belief in a Higher Power, then I sure better find a way to keep that person around long enough to present my side of the story.

thanks for engaging and not power slamming me. we could talk over coffee and have some fun.

Without the delay of explaining MICRO vs. MACRO evolution, it is important to realize that even Darwin recanted his belief in evolution after stating that he just did not want to believe in Intelligent Design.

bgjohn, the only problem I have with some of the scientific information is where I get my comment, "to me it takes more real "faith" (by that I mean the acceptance of things not SEEN....) to believe evolution than it does to accept an intelligent design. You can obviously take science and the religious principles you hold dear and make them say what you want them to say. All I'm saying is when you take in the whole body of knowledge in these areas, it just seems to me that you have to make some really giant leaps of "faith" to accept that everything we see before us today, all the wondrous bodies of science, all came from some wildly odd chance in the universe and just happened. That's where prangle is coming from in his original statement that it almost makes as much sense to accept that a tornado "could" go thru a junk yard and spit out a fully assembled Boeing 747 to believe that some cosmic dust ran into something else and today we have the miracles of science we see in you and me, the living body.

By the way, what I love to see and hear are good lectures or readings on the use of science to actually prove the intelligent design versus the use of science to disprove it.

Some folks are simply not interested in changing their beliefs since they have been formed over many years of experience, reading, learning, etc. IF and that is a very strongly presented word, IF you are interested in the "other" side, I would encourage you to seek any of the writings of a fellow named Lee Strobel. Lee is a former atheist who holds a Master of Studies in Law degree from Yale Law School and was an award winning legal editor of the Chicago Tribune. He began a search of history and writings and literature and science to "disprove" the theory of the whole Christian faith. He was so thorough in his research that he was proven wrong in his "disbelief" and has since become a Christian and has written several books that are all titled with "The Case for....... Faith, Christ, Easter", etc. Probably these books are deep enough to at least challenge the modern man's thinking to make them ask the question, is there some truth to this after all?

thanks for listening, er reading my stuff.

747 then starts its engines and flies itself from Miami to Los Angeles, so slowly that you never see it moving.
