    gun do you take fishing with you? I've got a 32-1 38S&W with about 75% of the nickel peeling off. Great to keep the snakes away.

    I think it's illegal here in Indiana to shoot fish. We can shoot frog's though (if they're in season).

    not to shoot the fish,(thats what dynamite is for[:D])just to have one in the tackel box.

    12g ...we have very venomous snakes here...if you get bitten and dont apply compress bandages you only have 1 hour before you cant help yourself. sometimes only 20 minutes. i have seen dogs bitten on the nose by tiger snakes and they have died within 10 minutes...when you are in the middle of no-where a shotgun is your friend.

    Sounds like you need to dynamite snakes instead of fish!

    I trout fish in some pretty snake infested areas, I carry 'the judge' ... 5 shot .410 ... and I load it with buckshot. Can also use .410 slugs, or .45 long colts.

    I almost never go fishing but my "tackle box gun" is a 22/410 derringer.

    I alway's have a 9 shot 22 cal. h&r with me when I'am fishing or just out walking in the wood's

    Either a 22 or a Bond derringer with 6 shot in the first barrel and
    a .45 colt in the second just in case of the 2 legged snakes.

    I'm in Cottonmouth country and carry a NAA .22lr loaded with snakeshot.

    It throws a nice wide pattern at 3-4 ft. but dense enough to reliably do them in. Any futher than this and they really aren't a danger anyhow.

    Lord, where do you guys fish?

    I don't take anything. Very few poisonous snakes in Ohio. Only ever saw one, a Cottonmouth.

    Copperheads can be found all around, Cottonmouths can be seen near just about any body of water.

    Out in the woods you'll also see the occasional rattlesnake. They're mostly the smallish Cane-Break Rattlers in my specific area.

    I think if I had to worry about all those snakes while fishing, I'd stay home or go to a bar!!

    Peppermint schnapps.
    I have never been bitten by a snow snake while drinking it.
    Learned that from an Air Force guy ice fishing on Devils Lake, ND
    at 7:30 AM listening to pro bowling on the radio.
    He had been in Minot too long.

    I have seen a few rattlers, and a few copperheads here in Ohio... but nothing like they are talking about. I don't usually take a gun fishing, but I do always carry at least a .22 when walking in the woods.
