    iwo jima and guadualcanal ... two places that are full of marines ghosts...ive never been to iwo jima but the canal is an amazing place..if you ever go there the hair will stand up on your neck....i cant even imagine what it would have been like to fight a war there...its hard enough to just walk around in most places...and you got to see the size of the crocs to believe it!

    Dan: I never made it to Gudalcanal, but on a West-Pac in '62, we stopped at Iwo Jima, just off Mount Suribachi, on February 28(?) to hold a memorial service to those who fought that fight. Seven Sailors and Marines were with that force whom we honored too. It was an amazing late afternoon event, and the ocean was as smooth as glass...magnificient. It was truly a humbling, and most memorable, experience.

    I truly love those WW2 vets. All vets are to be admired, but great grandpa vets are my favorites. Sorry for the loss.
