  Cool pics. It's also interesting that these are from the time frame and location of an infamous incident in Texas history.
  
  These show Presidio County, which was a very active area for our troops around 1917-1918. They weren't just sitting around drilling. Many people today are familiar with the 1916 raid on Columbus, NM by Pancho Villa's forces, but the area in your pics was a hot bed for cross-border incursions by large forces of Mexican raiders for a couple of years after this.
  
  Following a Christmas Day 1917 raid by Mexican forces where US ranchers were killed and property looted, US 8th Cavalry troops, Texas Rangers and local militia rode into the city of Porvenir, Tx. located on the US/Mexico border. After property stolen in the raid was discovered 15 people were executed.
  
  This caused an international flap, with our troops ending up being pulled out and a company of Rangers being disbanded, but the blame was never officially pinned on anyone or any particular group.
  
  It should be noted though that after Porvenir these large raids on US ranches ceased to be a problem.
  
  If you're interested in researching any of this it's known as the Porvenir Massacre.
