Rabbits

Anyone remember this story from 1979 when President Carter got attacked by a bunny? got any rabbit stories? I heard these bunny's really are sweet and can be litter-box trained... I would have invited the bunny up into the boat for a snack[;)]

In 1979 the Swamp Rabbit species enjoyed a brief stint of notoriety when one Swamp Rabbit had a close encounter with Jimmy Carter. In April of that year, as President Carter was fishing on a small pond on his farm, a visibly agitated Swamp Rabbit approached his boat and tried to board. Carter used a paddle to splash water at the rabbit in order to dissuade it from swimming towards the boat. The press dubbed this the "Killer Rabbit"

    My operation for raiseing rabbits for meat has taken a step closer today.

    I bought 4 nice rabbit hutches that allready have nesting boxes and feeders with them.

    All I need now is waterers, feed, and rabbits!

    I will get the rest later this week and I am going to the livestock auction on friday to buy the rabbits.

    I should be eating rabbit by may![:D]

    I have had it plenty of times. It just has been a while.

    I desided to start raiseing them to eat as it will give me something to do.

    Way to long but I will fix that soon. [8D] My older brother raised rabbits, he had around 600 does and had babies everyweek, talk about a hobby . [:D] He made good money selling them.

    i hope you make a few dollars kevin, one work of warning...dont let your kids see the babys [V]you will never get to kill them if you do..and dont be like one of my ex neighbours either...they didnt know you had to take the buck away from the doe`s when there were babys...those bucks sure are vicious[xx(]

    GRD, i was just giving you a hard time. i love Rabbits Fried with biscuits and gravy. don't let your kids name them. Good Luck raising them.

    GRD what are you going to do with the hides? My brother sold all of his white hides to a comapny that tanned and dyed them. He had a few spotted rabbits for furs of his own, he would freeze them until he had enough (not sure how many) Then he would buy some of the tanning solutoin from Cabelas and tan them. He sold them at flea markets and made some real money, they are soft and can be used in lots of crafts.

    I am going to start with 1 buck and 3 does and they will all get their own hutch. The does will only be with the buck for breeding.

    My nieghbor has raised rabbits before and he is going to help me get started.

    My kids allready know that the breeding stock will be kept but to not get attached to the babies as they will be killed for food. And my kids know that when I say that I mean just that!

    I plan on tanning them and possibly putting some up on GB for auction![;)][:D]

    You are short one cage for your buck. Do NOT put a buck in a does cage. Put the doe in his cage for bredding and remove her when done.

    You can raise what you want, but I still would recomend California rabbits. I did like Flemish's but they ate ALOT of feed. California's are the most economical to raise. You could try just one doe, and cross it with the zeland.

    I'm not short. I got 4 hutches and I'm going to start with 1 buck and 3 does.

    I will get a hutch for the babies as soon as I get the breeders.

    I have found that Californian's are harder to come by around here for some reason. But if I expand I will probly hunt for some.

    hey kevin...i never even thought of selling the skins..thats a top idea!!..ive seen "bunny rugs" for sale here at the markets before and they went for a couple of hundred dollars! and they sold quick too...you might be on a real winner there.

    I raised rabbits one summer and started with 2 rabbits.
    Someone heard I had a couple rabbits and gave me another.
    The two females had babies 3 times each that summer and by winter I haf 30 + rabbits.
    There were rabbits escaping and running all over the neighborhood.

    I killed one to eat and nobody would eat it so I gave all the rabbits away.

    Be careful there Kevin, them bunnies is pretty darn cute up close.
    You might just wind up with 8 or 10 pet rabbits.[:p]

    Also one of the females I had was weird and would kill her babies.
    I think the first litter she killed all but 2.

    my wife use to raise rabbits when she was 4h and she would show them in the county fair and after the fair was done, it was butcher time.
