Cabalas in St. louis

I took the time to drive to the new Cabelas store in St. Louis. I would have to say what a disappointment that was. I picked out four items in the catalog to purchase to include a pair of Cabelas 8-Point boots. Everything I wanted was out of stock. Finding someone to wait on me was almost impossible. I asked to see the manager but he was busy getting ready for year end inventory. I was told that was why they were out of stock on so many items and didn't restock. They didn't want to have to inventory items after the Christmas rush. I am stuck with a gift certificate to use on a catalog purchase and then have to pay shipping. Bass Pro, I will be coming back.

    Has nothing to do with counting inventory, it has to do with TAXES ON INVENTORY.

    Went there in October, and was excited about going. I was also very disappointed. The Bass Pro in St. Louis is much better.

    Cabelas is much better thatn Gander Mountain. Gander Mountain is a fooeyhole![:D]

    A little education on the box store business.

    Tax time....

    Less inventory on hand. Less taxes to pay.

    You may not know it. But box stores have to pay taxes on inventory that is the the store. As long as it is in the ware house no taxes are paid on it.

    Then it goes around. The areas of the country that have a higher tax bracket will be the stores that have the least merchandise on hand at inventory time.

    Some stores get hit at the first of the year. Then others gets it around July. Depends on when there physical year ends.

    i haven't met anyone yet that had a good experience at that particular cabela's from the day they opened

    Well I guess I'll be the first to say I liked the place. Unless I'm mistaken, the Bass Pro in St. Louis doesn't carry any reloading supplies, so I was pleasantly surprised to have that option at Cabelas. They also had a nice selection of muzzleloader bullets & accesories. Not to mention the taxidermy in Cabelas blows away what Bass Pro shop has (St. Louis Store). Now check out was a circus, but I had time to kill, so not a big problem.

    best reloading supplies around is 2 blocks down from bass pro on 5th street

    Yes, If I can only make one stop, it is Graff's instead of Bass Pro.

    If your ever going through Wheeling, West Virginia. Stop at the one there, if they don't have it in the store, you buy it anyway and go over the hill to the distribution warehouse and pick it up.
